Bored with bottles & nursing?
My little man, all of 9 months old today, has been getting more and more bored and "done" with bottles and nursing. He nurses for maybe 7 minutes in the morning, nurses for about 5-7 minutes before bed, and then during the day, at daycare, he drinks the entirety of his first bottle (8oz) and then the second bottle, in the afternoon, he's been really fussy with. He used to down it with no issue, but now he's regularly leaving 3-4 oz. I know he's getting more and more from food, he gets 3 meals a day, cereal & fruit in the morning for breakfast, yogurt and fruit for lunch, and veggies, carb and chicken for dinner. At dinner we give him a sippy cup with water, which he's doing better with (just to get him used to the sippy cup).
His schedule is :
wake up & nurse
breakfast about 9am
bottle at about 11/11:30
lunch around 2
bottle around 3/3:30
Dinner around 6:30
Nurse at bed 8:30
He's certainly not starving, and he's not dehydrated, nor is he complaining. I just always thought it would be me trying to wean him, not him trying to wean me.... guess I'm just sad.

Jess, it varies. B never nursed for more than 5-7 min at a time unless he was sleepy/asleep. He also is less interested in nursing and bottles now because he is so interested in his surroundings. It ebbs and flows and it doesn't mean he is weaning. D didn't wean until 27m and went through something similar at this age.

OK< cool because I was getting sad that he was ready to move on... Hahahaha. I'm sitting here thinking to myself NO I have another 3 months before I want to start think about weaning!

he could just be teething at that age and the sucking bothers him and he's not really ready to wean. DS became disinterested in bottles around 9 months and it turned out he was cutting 4 teeth. He then went back to normal drinking patterns once the teeth broke through.

My DS gave up bottles around 9 months, but still nurses now at 15 months old (I think he will nurse forever if I let him....just kidding...kinda). I will say now when he nurses during the day, he is done in 5-10 minutes tops unless he is sleepy. The only nursing session that takes longer is the morning session, but that is because we're both still waking up or falling back to sleep, depending upon the day.
I'd say your DS is not bored with nursing, but is now just way more efficient and is getting a lot of his nutrients elsewhere. Plus, he wants to see the world around him so he quickly nurses.

Awesome! Thanks ladies! Good point about the teething, it definitely looks like he might be, he has 2 bottom teeth and his whole top gums, the front 4 to 6, that whole area is swollen. I was really getting sad at the idea that it was coming to an end... like my little baby needed me that much less

I think it's pretty normal for them to be too busy to nurse as long as they used to at this age. They want to go go go. I would not take that as him weaning at all. Definitely try to nurse in a dim, boring location and don't worry about him not going as long. They can get plenty of milk in just a few minutes.
Dd is almost 9 months, doesn't get a ton of solids (if we're having a busy day it's often one meal and maybe a snack) and she rarely nurses longer than 5 or 7 minutes and doesn't get any bottles. She's doing just fine on that alone.

Definitely don't think it's that. He's been bottle fed since birth along with nursing. It's actually the bottle he's more bored with than nursing. He's been on the same nipple for the last 3 months or so, no change there.
