If you don't board your dog do you think this shot is necessary?
We NEVER board our dogs...and I was thinking of skipping this one this year.
Just looking for some thoughts on this.
TIA

We never gave it to any of our dogs on a regular basis ... once in a blue moon Bailey would go the kennel so we'd get it done.

We only started giving it to Maddie because they require it every 6 months at Petsmart where she goes to "camp" twice a week (she got kennel cough there anyway! Chat Icon ).

Re: Bordetella shot

We haven't since we stopped taking him to doggie daycare this past spring. I don't like to put stuff in his body unless I know he needs it.

Re: Bordetella shot

I don't know if this applies in your situation, but I will tell you this.

I have 2 dogs an 8 yr old shih tzu and a 10 month old brussels griffon.

The griffon goes to day camp and dog parks, so I always have her vaccinated. I don't bring the other dog anywhere because she is a little skittish.

Last week the shih tzu came down with kennel cough and the brussels was not sick at all. About a week before the shih tzu was sick, I had the brussels at a doggie halloween party for 2 hours, which is where the vet thinks it came from.

Kennel cough is very contagious so if you choose not to vaccinate, I would make sure that they are not in contact with any other animals or brought anywhere at all .

The medicine to treat the kennel cough is $$$$ as well
