Booster latch question?
I’m in the next set of going to a high back booster for my soon to be 7 & 8 year olds...
I’m trying to understand the latch thing... I have latch in my current car. We can’t use it because kids and seat are too heavy. I tether the top... and use seatbelt to strap kids in but it’s a 5 point harness. My 7 year old is almost too big for it.
With high back boosters, I can latch and kid uses the seatbelt. Do I tether the top? Do I keep latch on even if he’s in it? I’m considering configurations with the next car! Will have 3 kids across.

Booster latch question?
I don’t think a booster seat has a tether.
And on a booster the latch really only holds it in place—so it doesn’t slip around when you’re driving and the seat is empty. The seatbelt itself is what’s holding your child in safely.

Re: Booster latch question?
A high back booster is mot tethered or latched. It is just positioning the child so the seat belt hits them in the right place. The seat belt holds your child in

Re: Booster latch question?
I know with the booster I had (Graco Nautilus) you were allowed to latch it in to keep it from moving when they weren't belted in. Otherwise you were supposed to keep the seat belt done when they weren't in it so it wasn't a projectile in an accident. I didn't use the tether, just the latch...I believe that came from the manual for my seat.

Re: Booster latch question?
I found this:
The LATCH connection for booster seat isn't providing any additional restraint -- imagine your child sitting it in without a seatbelt, it's just as easy to fall forward in the case of an accident whether the seat is secured to the car or not.
Anchors for booster seats are only for convenience, not for safety. The LATCH system, as mandated in US vehicles from 2002 onward, supports a total combined weight of both child and seat of no more than 65 pounds. ... However, seat belts do not have the surprisingly low maximum supported weight that LATCH systems do
