Block party

Having a block party/1st birthday party for my son. Would like to do this every year since his birthday is in the summer. Should I buy everything or just rent it? Tent, canopy, table, chairs etc. He barely knows Mickey Mouse nothing else so I was thinking this theme? What do you think? Have any ideas?

Re: Block party

If you're sure you are going to use them (and have somewhere to store them), I think buying a tent, chairs, and tables would be cheaper--in the long term--than renting.

I always rent when hosting a large party, its a lot to store. Less head headache. I also think it depends on the size of tent and number of chairs

We bought tables and chairs. We have 2-3 big outdoor parties a year and various smaller indoor parties inside. It pays for itself in the long run and you don't have to deal with the hassle of delivery, pickup and calling.
We bought a combination of different chairs since some are used inside.

Block party

Our block does a huge block party every August- we rent every year. But my garage is small and full of DC's outdoor toys, so we have nowhere to store anything.

Re: Block party

I recently bought a 10x30 tent thinking it was a good investment as opposed to renting. It was a a disaster. So hard to put up with 2 adults, could've used 8. The wind blew it over, bending several rods and connectors. We took it down and put in the basement even though several pieces need replacing. We'll probably never use it again.

Rent a tent. :)

Re: Block party

Do you have a block party every year and does it always fall on your son's birthday? If you have the storage space and you plan on doing it every year anyway it would make sense to get some of the stuff so you don't always have to go through the hassle of renting it. Be prepared to always have people ask to borrow it for their parties.
