BLinds/Shades,etc.

I need opinions and advice..

We're "re-shading" every window in the house.

Im just used to the plain ole cheapo venetian mini-blinds. I love them because you can let in as much or as little sunlight... simple as that.

But Id like something a little different too..

Has anyone used bamboo shades? Are there any disadvantages (Beside the fact that they are all or nothing, sun or no sun...)...

What works for great rooms/large windows.?

Also, as much as I like vertical blinds, I LOVE curtains, and Im not one to not have a curtain on a window, even a bathroom. I need curtains... (and youre not supposed to have curtains with verticals right?)

any ideas or suggestions or photo ideas would be great ! Thanks

If you like the look of curtains check out Marburn Curtain Wharehouse. There are several locations, one on Rt. 110 in Melville. You really have to get lucky there but you can get curtains and sheers that would normally retail for $40 and up per panel at other stores for $10 or $15. They also have nice hardware and finials there as well for a lot less $$$$. The savings really add up.

My Dad's house was almost all verticals but they are not my taste... too 80's for me... JMO and ned to be contantly dusted. The less I have to dust the better my life...lol. I like curtains and sheers because a couple of times a year you take them down and throw them in the wash.

ETA: They have some nice window "scarfs" there as well that you can add to the top of the treatment.

Re: BLinds/Shades,etc.

We just put window coverings on all our windows in our house. We struggled with the same issues you mentioned and decided to do wood in our guest rooms and office and spent more $ in our master and family room. We decided on Silhouettes in those rooms. They are expensive but we really enjoy them and they look beautiful. In our masterbathroom we did the honeycombs that let you bring the top down, this way there is still privacy but the light is able to show through the top. I like them a lot. You can leave them pretty far down before anyone can see you. With all of these you can put a scarf or valance or curtains if you like.
