Black tie wedding Q
I have a black tie wedding to go to next week in manhattan. I Just wanted to check if I'm correct about the attire, DH wears a tux and I should wear a long gown right? I was talking to someone the other day who told me that women have to wear a black gown, is that true? I have a nice olive green gown I want to wear but now I'm doubting it.
Thanks!!!

Re: Black tie wedding Q
You are correct - the dress can be any color but it has to be floor-length.

Re: Black tie wedding Q
I went to a black tie optional wedding last night. I'd say 50% of the women wore gowns, 40% wore appropriate cocktail dresses and then there were the 10% that were underdressed...
You can MOST certainly wear green. I wore blue!
Have fun!

I went to a black tie wedding a few years ago and wore a black cocktail dress.

Re: Black tie wedding Q
We had a Black Tie wedding. Men wore tuxes (and some who didn't have or get wore a dressy, black suit and tie).
A lot of women wore gowns, but not 100%. Doesn't have to be black either. I LOVE color. My fav gown is burgendy I wore to a black tie affair. You can also wear a dressy cocktail dress.

Your dress DEFINITELY doesn't have to be black. I don't even think it has to be floor length. I go to a decent amount of black tie events and see tons of women in dressy cocktail dresses.

Re: Black tie wedding Q
DH and I just went to a black tie wedding this past weekend in downtown Chicago, very fancy. DH wore a tux and I wore a floor length black gown. There were women wearing shorter dresses and other colors, but it seemed that only the older women pulled this off. I would think that olive would be fine though. Maybe try to find out what color the bms are wearing?

Wear the olive green, it'll be fine. I wore a floor length platinum gown to a black tie Manhattan wedding before.
ETA: I also agree that a dressier cocktail gown would be fine, too.
