Black Tie Preferred
We just got an invitation for my 1st cousin's black tie preferred wedding. DH owns a black suit but should he really rent a tux? TIA

Re: Black Tie Preferred
If he has a nice black suit, I wouldn't. But I'd also check out the place and kinda go from there. I've only ever been to one wedding that was black tie optional and most men were wearing suits, not tuxes. And I wore a floor length gown for that one.

What are your other cousins doing? I'd ask your parents what they think.
I was invited to a black tie optional bar mitzvah and DH rented a tux.

Re: Black Tie Preferred
No other male cousins other than my brother who is in the wedding party. I will try to find out what my cousin's DH is doing. My father's not sure what he's doing yet.

Re: Black Tie Preferred
My wedding was 'black tie preferred' and I was totally fine with men wearing black suits. If they really wanted men to wear a tux, they would said 'black tie' and left out the word preferred.

Agreed. We had 'black tie welcome' and dark suits were exactly what we expected from most male guests!

Re: Black Tie Preferred
I think a black suit is fine. Our Wedding was Black Tie Optional - I mostly wrote it to ensure that people dressed properly.

Re: Black Tie Preferred
Thanks everyone! It would definitely help our budget not to have to rent a tuxedo right now. We are days away from closing on a house

Re: Black Tie Preferred
Dark suit is fine. I would only do tux if he was in the wedding party or was VERY close with them, unless of course he owned a tux.
