Black pepper vs White pepper...
Is there a difference between the two other then the obvious? Does white pepper season a dish differently?
I have a recipe that calls for white pepper and I'm wondering if the difference goes beyond color.
TIA~!

Re: Black pepper vs White pepper...
White pepper isn't (to me) as .. I don't know.. peppery-ish? Black pepper is definitely stronger and tastes like pepper. White pepper is much more mild. To be honest I usually use black pepper when they call for white pepper because i prefer the flavor overall. (I believe white pepper is black pepper with the outer husk removed).
I DO use white pepper in white sauces when I don't want to destroy the look with black pepper flakes.

I know someone who uses white pepper so that he can use less salt.
