Biting at daycare... Suggestions
DS 2 (15 mos) has been bitten 3 of the last 5 days he's been at school. I know the bites have come from more than one kid (the first bite was from my good friend's son and he was on vaca for the second bite...)
Any suggestions as to what to do? I know this happens but, it bothers me that it's happened 3 out of 5 days. Should I speak to the director? My friend?
This is new to me since DS 1 has only been bitten 2x in 3 1/4 years at the same daycare (by the sister of the kid who I know has bitten DS 2).

I don't have any real advice but just wanted to share that I'm going through almost the exact same thing. DS (14 months) was bitten 2 days in a row less than two weeks ago and then got bit again earlier this morning. I know it's at least 2 different children who have done it. It stinks because I know it's the age and it's a normal part of development so I'm trying not to get upset (none of the bites broke skin but left marks). For all I know he will be biting kids at some point too. But it's hard because that's my baby and I hate the idea of anyone hurting him.
If you feel you need to speak to someone, I would talk to the teachers first. If you get the feeling it's happening because they're not being watched closely enough, then I'd talk to the director. GL!

Sorry you are going through this too!
They were very apologetic of the second bite (the teachers, the director, etc)- since nobody saw it or reported it (I'm thinking it occurred when there were only 4 kids in the class and one teacher - who could have been changing a diaper - since they are usually quite diligent. But, it pains me to see the bite shaped bruises that last a week after it happens.
He also got hit over the head by someone with a toy last week - one of the days he wasn't bitten - so we are constantly filling out incident reports.

DS used to get bit a lot in the young toddler room - 12-18 mths. It didn't bother me so much...I guess because I preferred him getting bit vs. being the biter. Thanks to LIF I knew this was the norm at this age, so I let it go.
I trusted the teachers were on top of things, so I knew it wasn't their fault...well, them not paying attention.
...and based on previous happenings at the same school, I know they take serious action if need be. (ie: one boy bit a little girl's face - he was removed immediately from school.)

I am sorry your child has been bitten so many times! It hurts the moms more! What is the daycare policy? What do they offer to do other than apologize? At my DD's daycare they monitor closely and if it happens repeatedly, the biter will be shadowed. That means an adult will follow his/her every move to make sure they can redirect and prevent the problem. It is usually a phase when the kids are pre-verbal and don't have much impulse control. Talk to the teachers and see what they suggest. It shouldn't be happening this often!

Thanks for your responses.
He got bit again yesterday so DH went into the director to discuss but, didn't get any info (he didn't ask for anything other than who the biter was) and it seemed like the director tried to put it back on his actions (he sits on kids, etc)... She also mentioned that he was biting (which doesn't make sense because if they knew he was biting, we would have forms to sign saying he bit another kid - and he'd probably bite at home as well)...
