Birthing Class
Anyone not taking a birthing class? DH is really against it, thinks it's a waste of time and that they will tell me everything I need to know at the hospital. Thoughts??

Re: Birthing Class
I'm not. I knew DH wouldn't be into it and I figured it's not like you have a choice to give birth or not so I'll have to figure it out when I'm in labor!

Re: Birthing Class
I definitely am. I hope to learn something and I think that just having information will make me feel more comfortable when I'm in labor. I also plan on taking a hospital tour for the same reason.

Re: Birthing Class
I'm going to the one that the hospital is offering. I thought it would be a nice experience for DH and me too!

Re: Birthing Class
I absolutely will be. I know a fair amount about child birth and hospitals and I STILL want to take the hospital class! My thinking is you can't be too prepared. I'm hoping they have some good insight for me that might come in helpful. If nothing else, I'm hoping it will lessen my anxiety when the time actually comes. I've had people tell me not to waste my time and money, but personally for me I think that's really bad advice. I can't imagine not going to one.

Re: Birthing Class
We did this weekend. DH was ******** and moaning but I didn't care and dragged him there anyway. I can honestly say I enjoyed it! I asked a lot of questions and even if I already knew the answer to some of them I likes hearing a different perspective form an RE and not just books and online information. I also enjoyed the hospital visit and totally know what to expect now. A lot of things put my mind at easy and at the end of the day DH said he actually enjoyed it as well. I would totally recommend for first time parents even if it's just for the experience...

Re: Birthing Class
I am and it looks like I may be in the minority, but I wouldn't do it again. I think I would have looked into hypnobirthing, we are doing basic lamaze and I just feel like it might not be that helpful in the moment. I knew most of the basics about labor and delivery before the class and my husband is a doctor in the hospital that I'm delivering in, so by in large most of the stuff we have learned is stuff we already knew.

Re: Birthing Class
We are taking the free class offered by the hospital but we are also taking a lamaze class....
i also watch A Baby Story all the time and will probably rent childbirth DVDs
This is how i am with everything in life - i like to be prepared and want to know more than the drs and nurses so i know if someone isnt doing the right thing ....i have issues lol

Re: Birthing Class
I won't be. DH is against it and I was on the fence about it. So, we rented laugh and learn about childbirth DVD from our library and it had some really good information. I feel like between that and reading and possibly trying youtube for further breathing techniques we will be OK.

IMO this is one of those things where DH doesn't really get a say. If you want to take a class, then take one. DH isn't the one giving birth.

Re: Birthing Class
I took a hypnobirthing class and it was beyond helpful - not only for me but for my husband.
As an aside & JMO, I wouldn't watch A Baby Story too much - that show scared the living ish out of me...and in the end my birth story was nothing like what was portrayed on TV. Thankfully.
