birthday party etiquette
my 20 month old was invited to a 2nd birthday party at a gymnastics place. Problem is, I am alone with her and my 5 month old that day as DH has plans.
I am not sure how these parties work - I assume I would stick around and help out bc dd is at the age that she doesnt listen/understand fully. Its for my good friends daughter - but aside from my friend and her daughter (the bday girl) i do not know anyone else that will attending so I wont be able to have any help. Would you RSVP saying ill be there with my DS (who obviously will not be eating or participating so he would be free) - but my concern is more how will i keep an eye on DD while i have to care for (feed) DS. or would you decline?

It's a second birthday party so the kids are all still young. For those parties they keep the group small and really watch the kids and keep them occupied to keep them interested. I think it'll be fine. DS will be in the stroller most of the time and DD will go and play. It's pretty much a free play anyway so just keep an eye on her and help her when needed. The party people will help as well. Plus, it's only 1.5 most likely so why not feed DS before the party so he's all set. May even nap the entire time and if not he'll be watching the kids play.

Just wear the baby in a bjorn or ergo type carrier. If you need to nurse, you can use a cover and still keep an eye on the older child. You can bring older child with you to the bathroom if you have a diaper change.

I agree -- I was at one of these parties and one mom had the smaller baby in a carrier and wore her.

When we went to gymnastics they jumped on trampolines or did bouncy houses. It was not really "gymnastics" I would just wear the baby.

Wont staff be handling the children? Wouldn't think parents are expected to stay and participate in the activities.(not familiar with the gym this party is at)
My daughter is going to a safety swim.party Saturday & Im dropping her off. But she is older.
