Birhtday party theme question

Really early but I got a new Oriental trading catalog so I've started thinking.

DD's birthday is in the summer-really really hot her in NC in August.

Last year we did a home party and tried to keep it in doors but eventually all the kids wanted to go outside. So, this year I am thinking of just giving in to it and planning an outside party.

Since it is soooo hot here I'm thinking of doing a big water slide thing, sprinklers and a couple kiddie pools.

Can I do a luau theme with this even if there is no adult pool? Is a kiddie luau theme false advertising? Would people expect a real pool? Age group is around 4, with some older kids and some younger.

Should I do a circus theme instead? I would still do the water stuff, on a hot day the kids will need it. Maybe I should do an underwater theme instead?

Re: Birhtday party theme question

Luau parties don't need to have ANY pool. I was at a real luau in Hawaii, and there was no pool.....

I think it's a great idea.

My neighbor had a block party with a luau theme, so it was mainly for adults. He had an inflatable water slide for the kids, but no real pool.

Re: Birhtday party theme question

I think you're fine and as the PP said... luau parties don't mean pool at all. I've been to a few luau parties and you just expect lays and tiki stuff as the decorations.
On the invite you can put something about having a kiddie pool for the kids so please bring a towel and bathing suit.

I might expect a cool drink called the volcano or something though Chat Icon Chat Icon
maybe cute smoothies or something for the kids with the silly straws and then they can take it home

Re: Birhtday party theme question

Go with what YOU want for the party! You TOTALLY don’t need a pool for a luau…I’ve been debating using that theme for a few years and we don’t have a pool...the thought never even crossed my mind!
