Re: Bird feeders
You can see mine in this picture:
I can't remember the brand names but they're all from Wild Bird Center in Stony Brook. I had purchased other cheaper feeders from places like Lowes and regretted it. They were thrown away.
The baffles on top are to keep the squirrels at bay. But really, the placement on the branches is the best thing I've found to make them squirrel-proof.
I feed safflower in the left feeder because all the big birds can land on that one and safflower is cheaper.
The little house looking thing underneath is for suet cakes. That's for the woodpeckers but greedy house sparrows can also hang upside down and eat from it, unfortunately.
The feeder on the right is for the premium stuff - WBC's Patio Mix. It has it all, no shells, and they gorge themselves on it. A lot of birds even hang out underneath for the droppings.
Finally, if I'm feeling charitable, we also have a dried corncob feeder hanging from another tree for the hungry squirrels. We haven't had that one out in a while though.
I have to take out my birdbath heater and get water for them too. When everything is frozen like it is, water is just as imporant as seed. Sorry to ramble. But I like my friends.

Re: Bird feeders
we have a bunch of different ones
we buy them everywhere and anywhere and then just see what they like...different birds like different feeders
the woodpeckers seems to love the suet feeders
the finches love the socks with thistle
the sparrows will eat anything
