I'm just curious what others in this situation have done or are planning to do:

DD1 will be 20 months when baby2 is born. We have two options keep her in her crib or buy another crib. DD1 sleeps through the night if that makes a difference.

Re: Big Girl Bed or Another Crib

my dd#1 was 22months when dd#2 was born and she never climbed out or had any reason for her to have to come out of the crib yet so i didn't want to rush her baby stage lol just because dd#2 was coming so we just bought another crib for dd#2

eta my dd#1's crib converted to a toddler(big girl bed) and so did dd#2 so it wasn't a waste of money bc dd#1 is still in her converted toddler bed at almost 4 and dd#2 will be converted when the time comes

I would do the big girl bed. I would hate to spend the money on something she may only really need for a few more months.

We kept DS 1 in his crib when DS 2 was born at 27 months. A few weeks later, he started climbing out so we moved him into a bed and kept the crib for DS 2. Are you planning on keeping the baby with you for a few months? If so - I would hold off on the decision.

I would get a big girl bed. DS was almost 17 months when DD came along. We had a full bed ready for him but didn't push him into it when DD was born. DD slept in my room for a while (PNP/bassinet, my bed, swing etc.) and then a few months later he switched to his full bed and she took his crib. I didn't want to spend money on another crib!

I would definately buy another crib. My 1 ds was 2 when dd#2 came. I just moved him to a bed at 3 1/2. Best decision and $$ spent! Why mess with something that works..

I would go with the big girl bed - you can get a low profile frame and put mesh bed rails on both sides, which would feel almost like a crib. Not sure when the next baby is arriving, but I would transition well before the baby arrives.

My DD was 20 mos when her sister was born and I bought a new--pretty cheap--crib for her. The baby got the one already in the nursery. She slept great in the crib, plus I wanted to have as few transitions at that time as possible. She ended up staying in that crib for an additional 20 months!

dd and baby number 2 will be 17 months apart as well and I plan on doing the same thing.

My twins will be 26 months when this baby is born. I plan on buying a new crib for this baby. The twins share a room and have the same convertible cribs and would like them to match.

I plan on buying a less expensive crib that only coverts into a toddler bed (if that exists) because I have an extra fairly new queen bed. I figure the twins can convert to a full bed and this baby can have a queen bed when the time comes.

If money isn't too tight I would buy another convertible crib that can be DC #2s bed long term

my children are 21mths apart...we did another convertible crib. It was the right move for us since DS was in his crib until 4 (we took the side rail down a little after 3). DD is a little over 2 (she is potty trained also) and I can't imagine her being in a bed. For me, I liked that my son was old enough to understand that you don't leave your room and walk around the house, etc. He also understands that he can't come into our room except in the morning when he wakes up (we also have a stay in bed clock so he comes in when he is allowed - not 5am)

DD is 2.5 and we recently converted her crib to a toddler bed. we will buy another crib for DS when he arrives. DD will be in her toddler bed a while. They will be sharing a room, and we don't have the space for anything else.

I would get another crib - if your DD sleeps through the night, I wouldnt change anything.

DD will be exactly 2 when the new Chat Icon arrives. We bought a toddler bed for her and the new baby will inherit her crib.
