Bichon Frise
Since I can not sleep, I went online to do a search for dogs. I want to get a dog next year and want to do my research. I found a breed that I liked the decription of...Bichon Frise. Seems like a good temperment and they are hypoallergenic and good in apartments. Anyone own one, or know someone who does? Feedback? Also, the website (kennel club) said they do not bark a lot, is that true? I thought they did. I was actually looking at beagels, but they bark a lot and it may disturb neighbors. I can actually hear closet doors open and shut...our walls are paper-thin.
TIA

Re: Bichon Frise
I do!! She is my absolute pride and joy, i LOVE her. She is not a huge barker, she usually only barks when someone is at the door, or when she sits in my bay window and sees another dog go by. The one thing I will say is that at 5 years old she is still not properly house trained... I did hear that about the breed that they are hard to train but really I blame myself for not having been consistent because I just spoil her so much! Anyway she ( and her brother, my english bullldog) are the best things that ever happened to me! Let me know if you have any toehr questions.

Re: Bichon Frise
My husband had one growing up. He loves that breed and part of why they chose it was because he was not allergic to it. He has bad allergies.
He said the dog was playful and fun. The whole family loved it and still misses that dog.

Re: Bichon Frise
My dad has one. He was originally my aunts, until she passed away. He is a sweet dog, loves to cuddle with you on the couch.
He barks a lot at noises, people outside the windows, people at the door, squirrels. But that could just be his temperament. He used to be a lot more neurotic when he was with my aunt. But he's calmed down a lot.
Overall he's a good dog. He has some stomach issues, but again, that could be just him and not the breed. He's good with kids and other dogs as well. He plays with Bonnie when we bring her to my dads. He's never nipped at anyone.

COngrats on wanting to get a dog.
Would you consider adopting or rescuing a Bichon Frise? You can start by doing a search on petfinders.com.
Here is a great rescue in NYC-

Re: Bichon Frise
My parents have a little Bichon "Freedom". She's adorable and friendly and playful. She loves people, so she can be a bit high energy at first, but calms down quickly and turns into a big mush. She's also pretty intelligent, and can recognize people's names. And she's good with kids. My father currently watches my 5 month old daughter, and they are good friends now. The one problem they have is that they have to groom her constantly because her hair gets knotted very quickly. A great breed though.

Re: Bichon Frise
My Mom has one also. The dog has skin tags. It has really bad allergies in the Spring and scratches it's neck open. It is bad with the whole bathroom routine. Also I believe that there is something with the hips or knees of the breed so please be careful with that.
