BFing Moms....Supply issues!

I have never had any supply issues in the almost 6 months I have been EBFing...but I think I do now.

Lately when I feed DD at night...she gets frustrated at the boob and cries. I was thinking she was just over tired and cranky....but now I'm thinking maybe I just don't have enough milk at the end of the day. Is there anything i can do to increase my milk production at night. Should I pump for a while every night so my body starts producing more? DD has also been waking up at 4 am lately...maybe she's hungry because whatever she eats at night is not enough.

I was going to wait until her 6 month appointment to start her on solids...do you think I should start earlier so the rice/oatmeal or whatever can fill her up a little more?

Also, I just started work part time and i have been pumping while at work. How do I know whats a good amount to be pumping? Should I be pumping the same amount she is drinking out of bottles?

Ugh...and to top it off...I think her top teeth are going to break through soon...I hope this doesn't make it even more challenging to BF. Her bottom teeth haven't been so bad when she bite...but now with the top ones i am petrified!
Am i over thinking everything?

Thanks in advance :)

I just had a similar experience with my baby and I think it had to do with teething. It passed within a few days too.

I also learned after reading several posts on a bunch of different forums, that nursing a bit more frequently may help increase supply as well.

It could be teething but it could be something as simple as dehydration. The weather is warmer so you need to increase your water intake to compensate. Otherwise your milk supply can drop. Try drinking more water or some Gatorade. If it is dehydration it should pick up in a couple days of re hydrating.
Another possibility is af is on the way. Again it will readjust after she leaves Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: BFing Moms....Supply issues!

I don't think it's supply issues. When babies are teething, the act of nursing hurts. My LO refused to nurse at night when he was teething. For some reason, it didn't bother him during the day. I thought it was supply issues, until the teeth came in and then I understood.

You haven't started any solids? Cereal? I would guess your LO might be hungry too. I had to start before 6 months b/c it was just obvious he was still hungry and was nursing more frequently than usual because of hunger. My guess is, it'll help.

I wouldn't start to worry about your supply now - your body has adjusted and you will likely not feel engorgement at all anymore. Like I said, it's most likely teething.

Re: BFing Moms....Supply issues!

Thanks ladies!!! Her tooth cut through this morning! I'm hoping it was just teething. I'm also going to try to drink more water and maybe start food.

Thanks again :)
