BF'ing moms who transitioned to cow's milk come in please!
DD just turned 9 months but I am planning ahead. A couple of questions that I would really appreciate answers to:
For those of you who BF'ed and made the transition to cow's milk, did you continue nursing in the morning and at night? If so, for how long? Did your supply hold up until you were ready to wean or did you have to wean because your supply ran out from dropping sessions?
I love nursing but HAAAATE pumping. Counting down the days until I can stop pumping but not in a big hurry to wean altogether.
TIA!!

Re: BF'ing moms who transitioned to cow's milk come in please!
I BF'd til DS was 13 months old but started transitioning him at around 11.5 months. I first cut the afternoon "topping off" (which was what I did, after the meal, I would top him off with BM) and instead I gave a sippy cup of whole milk. Being that I never pumped either, I figured there was no reason to get him on a bottle at that point so we moved right to sippy cups. In about 2 weeks, I skipped the morning feeding and gave him a sippy cup of milk with chocolate ovaltine in it and it worked like a charm. 2-3 weeks later we cut the night feeding and substituted with milk again.
FM me if you want.

I started introducing milk to Ryan around 11 and a half months as well. Just gave him a sippy randomly with it (maybe 3 oz at a time). But continued to nurse as per our regular schedule.
He hated it cows milk. At 13 months I completely weaned and he had adjusted to drinking 1 8oz cup a day of milk in the morning.
He never drinks more that that. And even the ped said it's fine. He eats all dairy - cheese, yogurt, etc and hits all of his milestones. So the ped said not to stress over giving him the recommended 20 oz of milk a day.

Thanks ladies. I am worried that after I stop pumping my supply is going to tank very quickly and I won't be able to continue the morning and night nursing.

Re: BF'ing moms who transitioned to cow's milk come in please!
Thanks for asking this question.. I am right there with you. DD just turned 9 months and I will be going back to work at the end of January. The ped gave me the ok to start cows milk a few weeks earlier than her 1st birthday. He said most kids like the taste of cows milk, so it shouldnt be a problem. I haven't pumped in a few months and I don't want to start pumping again. I also plan to go straight to a sippy cup. I have been giving her the sippy with water for practice but she doesn't drink much from it.
Im hoping that our bodies will adjust and supply will not be an issue for the morn/night feeding. I want to continue these feedings as well.

Re: BF'ing moms who transitioned to cow's milk come in please!
I BF and pumped for 13 months. I started with a sippy cup of milk at 12 months, but kept nursing (sippy with water was introduced about 8 months). At that point, DD was only nursing 3x a day. At 13 months, I dropped the session before her nap. I started giving her the sippy in her room while we read books before her nap. She had no problem. I was so thrilled to give up the pumping!
At 15 months, I dropped the morning session. Again, she had no issues and actually started waking up happier.
She is now almost 17 months and we're still just nursing at night. My supply seems ok and she is never frustrated.
I'm going to continue until she stops.
Let me know if you have any questions.

This gives me hope - thank you!! We have been doing the sippy with water at lunch and dinner for the past two months and she does great with it. I'm hoping the transition to cow's milk is smooth but I really enjoy the special time with her.

W/ DD I EBF till we made the transition...the transition took 1 week though. I literally did 1/4 milk to 3/4 bm, then 1/3 to 1/3, 1/2 to 1/2 & then full. She had no problem.
She was using sippy cups for water b4 this though.
