I'm sure it's fine, but maybe let it heal for a day or at least a feeding. Do you have a pump? Maybe pump a couple feedings to see if any blood comes out???

It's safe just make sure that you try to mosturize with lanolin and that the baby is latching on correctly. A large amount of the areola should be in your the back of your baby's mouth. Good luck - I know this can be very painful.

The nurse in the hospital told me that a bleeding nipple should be avoided b/c when the child drinks off nipple it will get blood and may cause child to vomit. I just avoided the nipple for a day and then gave it to her again, and had no problems with vomiting.

Re: BFing moms (kinda TMI)
thanks ladies!!
I pump exclusively, so I will keep an eye on that side. This is the first time it happened after almost 4 months of pumping and it freaked me out. I think just a drop or two got into the milk from before, because I felt right away that something was wrong and stopped pumping. I think I might just dump that milk anyway to be safe.

Re: BFing moms (kinda TMI)
When I first started nursing when DS was just days old I had horrible cracked nipples with a little bleeding...sorry for the tmi anyway, i called the nurses in the hospital, the ped and my lactation consultant and all said it was fine to continue nursing.
Hope you feel better...its the worst

I received the same information. I had a nipple that was horribly cracked and DS never had any problems from BFing on it.
I hope you feel better too
