BFing moms - intro to solids question
Hi ladies…have a few questions. DD is just about 6 mos and we started oatmeal last week. We are doing about 1-1.5 tbs 2x a day and mixing with breastmilk. I am going to start some sweet potatoes this week and so on and so forth.
OK so already she seems like she is filling up fast and ready to drop a feeding. She was nursing 5-6x a day. Now she is down to 4-5x a day. I know this is normal so I shouldn't be worried right? I think her belly is the size of a pea…she never takes a lot of bm as it is but she is growing, healthy etc.
Also I cannot get her schedule down on when she should nurse. Should I just wait for her cues? Right now I am nursing her at 6am, then put her back down to sleep, then nurse again at 8-9am, cereal around 10-10:30am and then nap. The afternoon is hit or miss….she never cries or seems hungry until later like 3pm. That is a long time to not nurse her if my last session was at 8-9am kwim? I have been offering the boob at 1pm or 2pm and she is very fussy or spits up right after so we take a break, wait an hour and try again. She has just been so hard to read lately and never seems hungry. She used to get right up from her nap and be starving/crying and ready to eat. Not anymore!
Ques #2 - when did you go to 3 meals a day? I am just a worrywart about my supply right now and also I want to make sure I get an adequate number of nursing sessions in so she gets proper nutrition. I am going to speak to my ped but I think we are good with 2 meals a day for now.

BFing moms - intro to solids question
Yes! I have all the same questions and I was holding out till tomorrow to ask the ped. about them. My child does have the breakfast/lunch/dinner solids down now though and I've been nursing before or around each meal. So I'm around 5 nursing sessions a day (I'm not including night feedings which we still wake up for). I have no idea if I'm doing anything right. Lol.

Re: BFing moms - intro to solids question
tiny tot started having a taste of solids here and there at 5 1/2 months. here's what her schedule was like at 6 months.
620am - wake up time. nurse for 15-20mins 9am- 3 tablespoons of oatmeal 1 cube of fruit 1030am- 6.5oz of bm 12pm-1 cube of veggie 1 cube of fruit 1:30pm -6.5oz of bm 4:30pm -6.5oz of bm 7pm - 3 tablespoons of oatmeal 1 cube of fruit 8pm- bath time 815- story time, bed time, nurse for 15-20mins
times vary between the hours of 1030am-430pm since she did not have a set time to nap.
hope this helps

We did one meal at 6 months, then two at 7 months, and started the third at 8 months when she had started to drop to four sessions a day. DD is almost a year and she still nurses four times a day most days although she'll do three if we're really busy and out for a long time. Some sessions are just 2-3 minutes though. Usually I offer before her nap and sometimes she'll take a little and sometimes not. Same with late afternoon. If she's crabby I'll offer and sometimes she takes it and sometimes she doesn't. I would say she does at least 3 good sessions a day and then one that might be a real quick one.
