BF Working moms
What is/was your feeding schedule for your 7 month old? This question is geared more for BF moms because we really don't know exactly how much baby is getting at each nursing session. Here is our schedule:
5:00 AM nurse
7:30 AM 8 oz bottle (6 ounces of water + 3 scoops of formula)
11:00 AM 8 oz bottle (6 ounces of water + 3 scoops of formula)
12(ish) cereal (1 - 2 Tablespoons plus formula to make it smooth)
2:00 PM 8 oz bottle (6 ounces of water + 3 scoops of formula)
4:00 PM 6 oz bottle (4 ounces of water + 2 scoops of formula)
6:00 PM nurse
7:30 PM one Stage 1 size container of veggies (either squash, carrots, sweet potato, peas or green beans) and one Stage 1 size container of fruit (either apple sauce, peaches or pears - haven't tried bananmas yet in fear of constipation)
9:00 PM nurse (if we are out for dinner, I will give him some bottle after the jars of food to hold him over but I always nurse him to sleep)
***keep in mind that the nanny is feeding him from the 7:30 AM - about 5 feeding so the timing/amount might be off slightly
The past few nights, he has woken up at about 11:30 SCREAMING. I can't console him other than to nurse him. Is he really hungry or is it a comfort feed? After being away from him all day working, I am OK if it is a comfort feed (that is why I am reluctant to give up nursing ) but I just need to know if I need to start feeding this kid more! He got weighed last week and weighs 18 lbs, 4 oz (or at least he did last monday)
TIA

Re: BF Working moms
Ok, I worked after my first DD so I'll try to remember what my schedule was like.
7 am: Nurse 9am : Fruit & cereal 11:30: Bottle of BM (I think 8-10 oz) 12-2:30pm: Nap time 3:30pm: Veggies 5pm: 6-8 oz bm 6:30: Nurse 8pm: Solids 9: nurse 9:30-10: bedtime
I think if he wakes up screaming its a comfort feed. My DD did that all the time.

Thanks Stephanie What type of solids were you giving DD? What size jars of food? Were you up to the bigger jars at 7 months? DH and I discussed putting DS down a little earlier tonight. Maybe he is just so overtired. The nanny said he has really only been taking 1 1-hour nap during the day (plus a few 15 minute - 1/2 hour cat naps). In all, that is only about 8 - 10 hours of sleep per day! That certainly can not be enough for a baby

Re: BF Working moms
Here is my schedule, and it has been this way for about 2 months now.
6:30 - 7:00 - nurse 7:30 drop off at daycare 8:00 - 3 tablespoons cereal and 1 stage 2 fruit 10:00 6 ounce BM bottle 10:00 - try to nap - at home usually 45 min. - 1 hour - not a big napper 11:30/12:00 - stage 2 veggie 1:00 6 ounce bottle (usually bm and formula) 1:30 - nap 4:00 - 6 ounce bottle - all formula 6:00 dinner - usually a stage 2 earth's best dinner, sometimes if he is still hungry some fruit or something - totally depends on him 7:00 nurse and goes to bed
He is definitely getting 18 ounces in a bottle, and I'm figuring about 6 ounces each time he nurses.
On a side note - are you pumping at all or just nursing in the am and pm? I'm starting to stop pumping soon, and wonder how that will affect my supply.
As far as sleeping goes, it sounds like he needs to go to bed earlier. Sleep begets sleep - so sleeping more/better at night will help with the naps. I hate putting my ds down at 7:00, but I feel like sleep is more important.

Re: BF Working moms
Thanks DML
I am no longer pumping at work. I found it to be too difficult and it was making me not enjoy nursing. DH and I always said that I would nurse until it became too difficult and pumpimng was getting me to that point. I really love nursing though so i was (and am) reluctant to stop that. I stopped pumping about a month or so ago. At first I was getting very engorged during the day. Now it has sort of evened out though and I am fine with just nursing the 2 - 3 times a day. DS is still having VERY wet diapers in the morning so I know he is OK with supply. Also, sometimes when he pulls off there will still be milk in his mouth, KWIM? I have to be honest though, this is a HUGE concern of mine! Jeremy has always gotten formula. He actually started on formula as I was hevily medicated after delivery. I did not BF until 36 hours after he was born. He still latched on like a champ. Ever since he was born, I have supplemented with formula. Even after I went back to work, I was only able to pump about 6 ounces during the entire day.

Honestly, I don't remember I'm guessing she was on the Stage 2 jars. I know she would finish 1 full jar at each feeding.
I would guess that your DS could be overtired. His naps seem pretty short.

Thanks for answering that for me. Right now, I'm pumping twice at work, and am just getting sick of it, and like you, I'm not getting that much. So starting next week, I'm going to go down to once a day, then no more pumping at work for me- hey, I've made it for 6 months, exclusive bm, then the next three with bm and forumla and pumping 2 times a day, I'm still very proud of myself. I do want to continue to nurse in the am and pm, so i'm hoping I don't dry up - hopefully I will have good luck with this, like you.

Just a quick suggestion. With DD, when I nursed her in the morning, I only fed her on one side. Before I left I'd pump the other, and then I'd be empty so I wouldn't have to pump at work. When I got home I'd nurse her on the side I pumped in the morning, and then pump the other. I wouldn't get too engorged when I did that, and my supply stayed up until I weaned her at 18 months. It also gave me fresh breastmilk for her when I was gone.

It's been a while. But this was ours:
7:15 pump 7:30 nurse 10:30 cereal & Fruit 12:00- PUMP at work 1:30 bottle 4:30 bottle 4:30 PUMP at work 6:00 solids 7:30-8:00 nurse 10:00 dream feed.

Re: BF Working moms
When you all say solids, what are you giving DS or DD? Also, for the fruits & veggies, were you still giving stage 1 (or that size equivalent of homemade, etc) at 7 months? Jeremy scarfs down the veggies so quickly, it is almost like he would eat another jar if I gave it to him.
Thank you all for the honest answers, this is helpful!
