BF Question...

Is it possible to eventually just nurse for nighttime feedings?
Someone mentioned this to me & wasn't sure if it was true.
When I decide to stop BF, I'd still like to nurse at night if possible, it's just so much easier than making a bottle.Chat Icon

Re: BF Question...

Yes. Your body has the ability to nurse as much or as little as you want. Chat Icon You just have to slowly wean (cut out day feedings one by one every few days.)

Re: BF Question...

You can get your body to regulate to that point..just not cold turkey. How old is the baby?

She's 2 months now, but when I start P/T work again soon, it won't be possible for me to pump (unless they invent a pump that can work while I give a massage)Chat Icon .
I'd like to still continue nursing at night though.
Must I pump during the day to keep the "night supply" up? I'm just trying to figure out the best way to go about this.

Re: BF Question...

What will your massage schedule/PT schedule be? Are you working everyday for more than 4 hours?
You are going to need to pump to maintain y our supply at this young age....pumping isn't nuts though. Honestly, if you can schedule 20 minutes every 3 hours as a "pumping break" you can pump. It might be that you pump before you leave the house, pump once at work, then nurse when you get home...
Maybe I can help you figure out a way?

Have you introduced any formula into the baby's diet yet?

It won't be impossible for me to pump, but there will be some days where it will be too hard. I do massage parties & tend to do like 4-5 hours in a row, so no time to pump in between. I'm just going to try my best I guess.
I appreciate the help!Chat Icon

Re: BF Question...

In my experience, I could not only BF in the evenings; my milk dried up, unfortunately. I weaned down very gradually and was told it was possible to do afternoons/evenings after work (I'm a teacher). However, by the second week back, Katherine was howling in her crib after (what I thought was) her last BF. I gave her a bottle and she wolfed it down and I realized she wasn't getting any milk from me. It was impossible for me to pump at any point during the workday and I leave too early to do an AM feeding...I think that was the problem.

My SIL is also a teacher and was able to BF in the evenings for a whole year. She was able to do an AM feeding, that might have been the difference.
