BF moms who cut out dairy

i cut out the dairy b/d dd was uncomfortable, gassy, had green and mucusy poop (sorry tmi), congested, etc. she's been much better since cutting it out and reacts even when i have a little, but still seems uncomfortable when she goes sometimes and is gassy - i'm not sure this is normal newborn stuff of something else (i'll ask the ped at her next appointment).

how did you know you needed to cut out the dairy? when did you incorporate it back in or did you wait until dc was done bfing? how sensitive was dc (could you have a little, etc)? any other advice?

Re: BF moms who cut out dairy

Dairy allergies are common in my family, so we were expecting it. DS was mucousy, constipated and had eczema. At first I just cut back on dairy and would have a bit of cheese here and there but I started to notice ow great of an effect it had on him, especially with the constipation and eczema. Everything except the eczema is completely gone now, our PED said he could have multiple triggers for the eczema - heat and humidity seem to have a great effect on it as well Chat Icon

I don't plan on having dairy until I am finished BFing, which I plan do to until he is about a year.

Re: BF moms who cut out dairy

DD's ped diagnosed the milk protein issue at @ 6 weeks. I cut out all dairy for 2 weeks, then gradually added it back in. As an example, before the diagnosis, I ate yogurt every day with breakfast, after the diagnosis I stopped completely, and then when reintroducing dairy into my own diet I did one product 1x per week for 2 weeks, then 2x per week for 2 weeks etc, until I got back to my normal eating habits (cheese & cracker snacks, pizza, yogurt etc).

Re: BF moms who cut out dairy

rash on his face and neck...cleared up in 4 days after I got off dairy.

he cried everytime I ever put him down. never used bouncer, swing, sling, bassinet...just cried.

had a poopy diaper tested, was green and mucusy...blood was found.

had tested after gave up dairy, still traces of blood.

gave up soy, blood disappeared.

still tested positive at 6 mos and 9 mos.

13 mos was magic number, outgrew allergy.

good luck!

Almost the same situation with DD...I gave up BF because it was difficult for me to maintain the diet going back to work and she was much happier on the amino acid formula than she ever was when BF.
