BF moms- bottle issue
DD is 4 months and exclusively bf. She has had occaisonal bottles of pumped milk if I was out. She will now not take a bottle. Does anyone have any experience with this? What can I do?

Ryan never really cares once he realizes it's the same stuff inside. I'd try a different bottle/nipple.

Both of my Ds's never cared and for the first 4 months never had a bottle, but some of my friends said they had to switch nipples and bottles numerous times for a better fit for baby. My boys liked Avent bottles.

Re: BF moms- bottle issue
i agree, i would try a different bottle/nipple. DS never had a problem taking the bottle, we use the platex drop ins system.
good luck

Re: BF moms- bottle issue
Uggghhh...I had the hardest time getting dd to take a bottle. She finally accepted one at 5 months. It was the adiri bottle. Then she started refusing again. Then we went to playtex drop ins at around 7 months. At this time i tried to wean her. Every week I was replacing a feeding with a bottle. By the third week, she caught on and started refusing the bottle again. So I had to take her off the breast cold turkey. I know it sounds terrible but she was unweanable!! Good luck!! I hope you have a better experience than me!

Re: BF moms- bottle issue
with DD#1 i experimented with a few different brands (dr. browns, avent, etc.), but in the end i really don't think it mattered (with the exception of one kind that had WAY too much of a flow), she just needed to get the hang of something new.
now with DD#2 i got only one kind, the evenflow glass bottles and was hoping for the best. the first few times the flow was a little intense and she fumbled a bit, but now she's fine with them.
my approach to any type of "rejection", is if they are hungry enough they will figure it out. if they are trying and in the process are in pain or having extreme difficulty, i'll see if there is anything i can try/do instead...

Re: BF moms- bottle issue
OMG yes I have experience with this, and it was a total nightmare.
Do you have to go back to work, or is the bottle just for convenience?
I recently wrote out an email to a friend about this (who is having the same issue), so I will copy and paste what I wrote.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Oh my, the bottle debacle. That was not a time I look back on fondly -- what a freakin' nightmare, actually!
Here are a few pointers (that you may or may not already know!) that we either tried or I just read about along the way:
1) Make sure someone other than you gives her the bottle 2) Be out of sight, and even better - out of the house - during the bottle attempt 3) Give it at a time when she's not TOO hungry, but still somewhat hungry 4) Try for 10-15 minutes - if she doesn't take it - try again later or the next day - but do NOT nurse her right away - wait 15 or 20 minutes (so she doesn't sense the "cause and effect" of her crying followed by nursing) 5) Try different bottles (although, I'm not sure this really matters) 6) Have DH (or whoever) give her the bottle in a position OTHER than the cradle position that you use during nursing - e.g. give it to her in the bouncy chair
Hope some of that helps! DD's bottle strike lasted nearly 3 months. It was a living nightmare. We fed her with a medicine dropper during that time which was NOT fun (for her or us!). I hope it doesn't come to that for you!!!
