BF moms and pacifier use?
Hi!
For those who BF'ed... did you introduce a pacifier to your child? And if so, at what age? Thanks!

Nope, never did! Julia never wanted it anyway, plus weening is a PITA!

Re: BF moms and pacifier use?
I offered a pacifier during week one. My DS was and still is, a very "sucky" baby. If I did not offer the paci, I felt like it would be me he was going to suck on all day! He is EBF and is now 3.5 months old.

Re: BF moms and pacifier use?
DD has a VERY strong need to suck so we finally introduced it at 4 weeks I think. It helped alot. She would go off to sleep and then shortly after, let it fall out of her mouth. She doesn't use it often but we find it to be a big help! (We were told to use the Gerber Nuk).

Same here. We tried when DD was like 3 weeks, b/c she was very fussy, but she refused it, and we were happy she did...I don't see any problems with them personally, just glad I didn't have to worry about getting her away from it in the future!

Re: BF moms and pacifier use?
the hospital introduced it the first day/night he was born. I forgot to tell them not to as i was afraid it would affect his sucking when BFing (and it ended up doing just that). He had a great latch but sucking a pacifier/bottle is so differently from a boob. I stopped BFing after 2 weeks due to an infection and i wonder if it was never introduced or we would have waited at least a month, till he was really established with it, if it would have made a difference.

Re: BF moms and pacifier use?
The hospital asked if they could give her one at a day or two old. I said yes.

Re: BF moms and pacifier use?
We did when he was young since he'd be attached all day if he had the choice. He didn't care either way most of the time. But we stopped it at 6 months and he didn't notice...

my dd doesn't want it. I wish she did because I think she'd soothe herself.

Re: BF moms and pacifier use?
We waited a month to introduce it and by then she only used it for about another month or two. She never really liked it or got attached to it.

Re: BF moms and pacifier use?
introduced it to R when she was 2 1/2 months old , first she refused it, then she took it for a little bit,she is almost 4 months now she only uses it when she takes a nap or night to fall asleep and thats it, if she isn't sleepy she won't take it. the only reason I gave it to her was because they say it protects them from SIDS, but who really knows.

Re: BF moms and pacifier use?
We gave her one early on when she was crying and upset - she would only take it on occasion when she was upset - never other times. I still carry it around but she only takes it maybe once every 5-10 times I offer it. She prefers to s u c k on her entire hand instead

Re: BF moms and pacifier use?
I did try around 3 weeks because DD was using me as pacifier and it was getting to be to much for me. She would only take the Avent one's at that time and not always. Then around 6 weeks she starting takin the NUK ones and that is all she takes now. She doesn't have it in her mouth all the time. I mostly use it when she falls asleep on me when she is done nursing but is still sucking every few minutes out of habit and it usually falls out or when she is a little cranky and that holds her over.

I introduced it with my son but he never really liked it anyway. He still uses the paci but he is not addicted to it.

My baby also has a strong need to suck so we use it after feeding - he'll suck on it to go to sleep. We don't use it any other time so far. It has helped a lot - he is 3 weeks old.
