BF Moms - help?

DS is 3.5 months old and EBF. He is sleeping 12 hours at night. I am feeding him every 3 hours and can barely get in 5 feedings. Do you think it is too early to go to 4 feedings a day? I'd like to stretch the time in between feedings but am worried about my supply.

It sounds like you are doing great!! I think at this age, my ped was telling me to try to get in the 5 feedings, but since your DS is sleeping so long at night, that may be a sign that he doesn't need it. Can you put a call in to ask your ped?

I would not go down to 4 feedings at 3.5 mos. That's just way too young, IMO. Since your DS is sleeping 12 hours (Chat Icon), you should not be stretching your feedings any longer than every 3 hours. Keep doing what you're doing, IMO! Chat Icon

How many oz in a feeding? In my motherly opinion babies will eat what they need or cry when they need more. If he gaining weight & is happy then your doing just what your baby needs.
PS: high 5 on the marathon sleeper!

Re: BF Moms - help?

I always BF on demand. I wouldn't nurse him less than 5x a day (or less than every three hours) at this age.

I always BF on demand and I found it fluctuated. He may seem to be dropping a feeding now, but he could hit a growth spurt in a few weeks and go back to nursing more frequently. I agree w/ pp about trying not nursing less than 5xs a day at this age. Some days me be different than others, but I'd still aim for the 5xs whenever possible.

Thanks for all the advice. I was thinking to aim for 5 too!

Today, he woke up at 7:30, nursed and went back to sleep around 9:00 and is still sleeping!

I know this is a great problem to have, but as a mother I am always worried.
