BF Moms-- after you got your period...

Did your supply change?

I was blessed with a treat this weekend-- my period, exactly 8 months post-partum (I am VERY behind in posting pics of Sash Chat Icon, I've been busy!).

Anyway-- as of now, I am still EBF, along with solids-- and I pump to add to the cereal. I only am able to pump 3 to 4 oz a day-- JUST enough to mix with the cereal. Plus, I am going to start needing to be out of the house and saving some milk for a bottle here and there. I am so worried that I am just going to be able to pump less and less.

Re: BF Moms-- after you got your period...

this is what's happening to me....I pump at work to continue to EBF my DD. since she has been on solids I most definitely pump less. I have just come to the conclusion that she just needs less milk at this point. She is replacing the need for it with solids. I use prune juice to mix her cereal now, it helps to keep her "regular" anyway. I don't have enough milk to use for the cereal. We have to remember that BF babies are not the same as FF babies. I always get nervous when I read posts about how much formula they drink a day. I always think that maybe I am underfeeding DD. But I know that is not the case. She is totally content with what I am able to pump and give her while I am at work. I read something really interesting last week - as baby grow, they do not need more milk since the fat content in the milk gets greater as baby get older - isn't that amazing! Our bodies are so cool! And also - the fact that you got your period means that Sasha is drinking less - that's how your body knows to get started again. Don't stress - if you hae to use juice/water to mix the cereal, it's OK.

Lucky me, I got AF 11 weeks PP even though I was EBF.

I definitley notice a supply drop a day or so before AF and for 2 or 3 days into AF and then it returns to normal.

I pump every morning after feeding DD to keep a small reserve in the fridge. Normally, I can pump about 3 ozs after immediately feeding her. With AF, it is usually .5-1 oz out of both breasts.

thanks ladies... I will just keep doing what I am doing. I just don't want to have to give formula at this point because I don't have enough for bottles should I not be with her.

I noticed my supply dip drastically right before and during the first 2 PP periods. I took more milk plus & mother's milk tea, and I got back on track after my period was done. But overall, I am not pumping as much as I used to...just enough to feed DS daily, but not to make a stash. Chat Icon

I unfortunately totally lost my supply when I got AF(5 months PP) I was able to pump for another month or so and then had to supplement with formula at that time. At 6 months he was totally on formula

Yes. My supply dips every month for a week. Chat Icon I have been lucky enough to get my period back at 3 & 4 months PP even though I EBF both kids. It does dip, but it's never been enough of a dip for me to supplement. The week before my period I usually just add an extra pumping session or two at home to make up for it (I work PT).

My supply dramatically decreases the week before and the week during AF. It goes back to normal once AF is done.
