BF Class
Has anyone signed up for this? Did you find it useful? I am delivering at winthrop and got the number of the woman but am debating on whether it is worth my while. Any thoughts?

Re: BF Class
I went to one up here in CT given by the hospital. I found it very useful, and cleared up some confusion and answered my questions about BF.
I was on the fence and hesitant about BF until I went to the class. There is just so much you think you know and think you can do, but seeing it demo'd, by a LC is worth it. I feel more confident and less afraid of the unknown now.

I feel the same way. I took a BF'ing class last Saturday. It was well worth it! I feel WAY more confident about BF'ing now.

Re: BF Class
I took the one at Winthrop 2 years ago. I think the woman's name giving it was Lisa Kennedy ?? Anyway, the class was huge and while it was informative, I didn't learn a lot of new things. There were too many people in it to have it be personalized, if you KWIM. But it was good for some aspects, I just cna't remember what!

Re: BF Class
This is part of my birthing/child care class I'm taking... we haven't covered it yet, but if I feel I didn't learn enough I will definitely consider taking a class.

Re: BF Class
It is VERY useful. Also, get a copy of The Nursing Mother's Companion Guide.

Is it hard to do for a year? Is it true that you go back to you pre-preggo weight faster with Bf'ing? Sorry for all the questions, just curious. TIA

I didnt and i regret it more than anything....For some it dosent come as natural as you'd assume... When the time for baby # 2 comes, this will be the first thing on my to-do list...

Re: BF Class
I'm delivering at Winthrop too. Can you share the info? Is this woman associated with the hospital?
I'm still on the fence about BF, though I'd like to give it a try. Maybe taking a class will help me stick with it....

Re: BF Class
I went to one at NYU. It was AWFUL!!! The instructor asked us all why we were there. 17 women said we were there to LEARN HOW to breast feed and one said she was thinking of breast feeding. Well out of a 3 hour class, 2 1/2 hours was spent discussing the benefits of breast feeding and why we should do it. Then we had a break, 20 minutes on the biology of breast feeding and about 20 minutes on HOW to breastfeed. And even that was filled with stories about her sister- since the instructor never had any children so she didn't breastfeed. I was so disappointed.
But I think it is based entirely on the instructor. The lamaze class I had did a much better section on breast feeding.

Re: BF Class
Your body burns 500 calories per day while breastfeeding. I actually GAINED weight when I stopped
I took a free class at Stony Brook and it was great. Anyone can take it, not just for those delivering there.
