Best transition cup for a STUBBORN bottle addict
Anyone have a super stubborn bottle addict? How did you transition? Tried going cold turkey to milk with a version of the sippy he liked the best (never loved any consistently). He reluctantly switched (like we had to chase him around with it but he ultimately drank it). But then after a couple of days he pretty much went on a drinking strike for a few days (milk and water). Caved and gave the bottle yesterday because he was probably dehydrated but now what? He'll be 13 mos next week.
Advice please?! I have two older kids and neither of them were this stubborn

Re: Best transition cup for a STUBBORN bottle addict
I had the same situation. Probably worse. She would scream and writhe around like a drug addict who needed their fix. It was awful.
So we just stopped. Gave her back her bottle. This was at 12 months.
At 15 months, I came home from work one day that DH had been with her and he said to me "she's off the bottle" I was like what?
He said "yeah I just told her today that there will be no more bottles, handed her the milk in a cup and she took it"
She was ready at that point.
IMO, this, like so many other things, is a case of, when they are ready, they are ready and it will happen pretty easily at that point.
When they are not ready, it will be torture for you both.
He may just not be ready yet.

totally like a junkie. He tips himself forward until his head hits the ground and then flops himself over all pissed off and yelling... it's super fun This was super chill infant up until about 3 weeks ago who suddenly has terrible 2s like tantrums!
I think you're right. I think we also just haven't found the right cup and need to try a few more before saying "this is it!"

Re: Best transition cup for a STUBBORN bottle addict
This is one thing I didn't push on my DS. I didn't give him a cup for milk until around 18 months.
When we were ready we did it cold turkey. I bought him cups with his favorite characters on them and put all the bottles away so he couldn't see them. The first few days he asked for the bottle but then would take the cup with no problem.
ETA: We tried a few cups for water first but the ones DS liked the best were these https://www.amazon.com/Munchkin-Patrol-Click-Insulated-Sippy/dp/B00UJWP6IU/ref=sr_1_6_s_it?s=baby-products&srs=2596966011&ie=UTF8&qid=1482174566&sr=1-6&th=1

Re: Best transition cup for a STUBBORN bottle addict
We liked the nuk active cups. They have a soft spout that is like a nipple but diff shape. We started with warm milk then went to cold after awhile.
You might just wait a month or 2. There's too much pressure to transition kids at particular ages. Some aren't ready. In the grand scheme it doesn't matter. You also don't want to get into a power struggle. This is one of many transitions you will need to do (potty training, bed, etc).
Not sure if you tried this but you could also keep first and last bottles which the kids seem more attached to. He might be more willing to do sippy during day and have comfort of bottle at night for awhile longer.
All kids are different and yes some are easy and others aren't. Don't make yourself feel bad comparing to others.
Good luck!

Re: Best transition cup for a STUBBORN bottle addict
With DS I let him keep the bottle for milk and just gave the sippy with water. We tried to take the bottle away a few times, but were unsuccessful until closer to 2. 13 months is still very young. Why push it? Just leave the bottle.
DD was so easy and could take the bottle or leave it. She had given up the bottle on her own by 15 months. Now she's 19 months and wants a regular cup without the top!

Re: Best transition cup for a STUBBORN bottle addict
My almost 4 year old drinks milk out of the Nuby soft spout cups. These are the cups she transitioned to after her bottle. All other drinks are from a regular cup or a cup with a straw.

Best transition cup for a STUBBORN bottle addict
My DD kept her night bottle till she was almost 2. She wasn't ready to give it up. We just kept dropping bottles one by one until her night one was the only one left. One night we swapped it for a cup and never looked back. DS is 13 months and I would not DREAM of taking his Baba! We would never ever sleep lol

Best transition cup for a STUBBORN bottle addict
I'm trying to do this with my DD who just turned a year. She drinks water out of a straw cup and had been giving me a hard time with formula bottles for a while so I thought it would be an easy transition- once she went on milk, we'd use a cup.
I assumed incorrectly, and she has now decided she likes her bottles again. I'm on the fence about pushing it or letting it go.

Best transition cup for a STUBBORN bottle addict
I gave up and then one day at 2.5 years old, DD announced that she was a big girl and no longer wanted a bottle.
She was only drinking milk out of a bottle at that point. Water was always out of a sippy.

You give me hope! My almost 2.5 year old refuses to drink milk out of anything but a bottle. I have an entire kitchen drawer of cups that we have tried and she refuses to drink from. I keep hoping that one day she will just give it up.
To the OP I know a lot of people who have had success with the Nuk sippy. I think you are smart to do the transition now and I really regret not stopping the bottle earlier.

It came as a major shock to us. It was so out of the blue. It's been 2-3 months and she has not once asked for a bottle and even looks at dd2's bottles and says- ew that's for babies.

We just got a bunch of different cups to try yesterday so I'll let you know how that goes. He's such an addict that I think we have no choice but to do it now because it will only get worse. I bought an updated version of the Born Free transition cup that worked with DS and DD and I am hoping that's the answer! They also liked the Nuk soft spouts but those leaked like crazy when we tried them recently.

Water she drink out of the Nuk Learner cup and Milk we are giving in the Munchkin Miracle 360 Trainer Cup. She transitioned to those just fine. We didn't give her options so she got used to it. She only drinks out of bottle at night.

I actually bought that cup but we couldn't figure out how to drink from it ourselves and gave up!

You drink out of it like a regular cup. The liquid comes out as soon as you press your lips to the rim of the cup. My DD was a pro after a day.

This is the cup that helped us transition as well. once he got used to it DS started taking any sippy cup we offered.
