We have the vtech mobigo and DD loves it. She will be 3 in August. Its touch screen (it has controls too) but the touch screen is easy for her to use, she is too little to use the controls.

my nephew has been using and loving the Nintendo DS since he was around that age...its nice because its totally been able to grow with him, when he was that age he used the Seasame Street, Baby Einstein, Elmo games, etc...and now that he is 4 he likes Mario Kart, etc...

We got DS the Leapster for Christmas. He hasn't shown much interest in it initially so we put it away and figured we'd try again around his birthday when he is 3.

Re: Best handheld gaming/learning device for 2.5-3
My girls both got the Leapster2 when they were 2.5 and 4. They're 4 and 5.5 now and they both still love it. I really don't think the younger one knew what she was doing when she first got it, but she had a blast with it! They're always getting new games for holidays and birthdays...
Personally, I don't think I'd do the DS. I feel that it's way too expensive for a child that age and the stylus thing can get lost easily as well--a 2 year old can't be responsible for it, KWIM? According to TRU, it's for ages 6+; I also think if she were to get it now, what will she have to look forward to when she IS that age?
