Just got the Nikon D40...I'm loving it. You can get the kit (camera body plus 18-55 mm lense) for under $600...
I have so much to learn, but I was able to take pictures as soon as the battery charged without having to know a thing about cameras or photography.
We went to Berger Bros. in Syosset. No matter what camera we got, they threw in a free photography class!!

i just found out this morning i'm getting this for christmas too! (found out, meaning i actually pulled the tape off and peaked). I'm so surprised and excited!!!
