Re: Besides Orlando...

Gulf Coast- Clearwater Beach is beautiful
The water in the gulf is calmer and better for kids IMO.
The beaches are stunning.
The resort we stay out is beyond amazing and they have stuff for kids. (movies by the pool each night, mermaid bedtime stories, s'more making, kids club, sand toys to borrow for the beach)

Catalina Island
Ft. Myers Beach
Sanibel Island

To add to the Gulf side:
Naples (they have a small zoo)
Treasure Island (near Clearwater Beach)
St. Pete Beach
Marco Island

Really anything along the Gulf coast is beautiful.

Whether you are looking for a hotel or condo, look for something ON the beach side. Staying across the street is a PITA to get to the beach (not much parking on the beach side). Clearwater Beach has a lot parking though (though the lot fills quickly and it's not free).

We stay at the Quality Inn at the beginning of the strip - its not the nicest place per se (they are renovating) but honestly we dont care. We always get the room that leads right out to the pool so we can go back and forth as needed. We aren't in our room much. Plus IHOP delivers right to your room - its a win-win Chat Icon

We stayed here when we went! I liked that mini golf was right across the street. The pool was great! The rooms were decent...we didn't pay much, so I was satisfied. I remember we had initially booked another hotel that was a couple doors down...Hilton, Wyndham maybe, I forget. But, it had a severe ant problem I was reading a few days before our trip so I had to switch quickly!
