Berlin

Visiting a friend in Berlin in the spring.

Any recommendations for places to see? I know nothing. She lives right in the city and has been there for 6 months.

Most curious about good German restaurants. She is a super picky eater so we might vernture out on our own a few times because we would want to try authentic food. Would love to have at least 1 really nice dinner.

The CheckPoint Charlie museum is one of my favorite museums ever!

There is still a 20 foot or so remain of the Wall up as a memorial. And the Brandenburg gate is gorgeous! You could take a trip up the TV tower too.

I went to the Schloss Charlottenburg, but I remember that while nice, it isn't like Versailles or Neuschwanstein.

There are also the infamous Nazi sites (I saw these while on a bike tour and I thought that was a good way to see it)

When I was there, they were building the holocaust museum, so I wasn't able to go, but I hear it's great.

As for food, you will find your array of typical German foods - wursts, pork, sauerkraut, etc But Berlin is a modern city and you can find any type of food.

one thing that you have to try is Berliner Weisse - green or red beer. It's just bad beer with red or green syrup and you drink it from a straw. It's really touristy, but a fun experience. If you go to Joe's Beer Haus it will be that much more fun! Then go for the awesome microbrews.

Re: Berlin

For a Restaurant try Mutter Hoppe's. Try to make it there on a Friday or Saturday, make reservations. They have live music and the food is so good. I highly suggest the Sauerbraten. It's in the Alexander Platz area.
