Belt Parkway
My FH's grandmother just passed away this morning 
I have to go into Staten Island for the second wake on Friday afternoon, probably around 5 pm  Is there really MUCH traffic going into Staten Island (as opposed to coming out) at that time? I KNOW there will be traffic, but will it be ridiculous???

5pm on a Friday is not going to be pretty. I would definitely try to head in earlier.

The service starts at 7. I am meeting him there because I have to work on Friday (I am taking off tomorrow to go with him). Unfortunately, I can't leave any earlier - I know what I'm in for

I'm very sorry to hear about FH's grandmother...
I do think that the Belt on a Friday afternoon at 5 pm is definitely going to be ridiculous. I used to travel on the Belt all the time and I still have nightmares about it...sorry...

i take the belt everyday back and forth to work.
you are going to hit traffic def on a friday..what usually takes me 10 min to get home could take 30-45 on a friday
the traffic gets backed up from si thats why the belt is so bad
the toll booth is a killer
once youi get passed slosson ave on the si expressway it clears up a little bit .unleess all that traffic is going to nj

Sorry about FH's grandmother.
No matter what road you take you're going to hit traffic. I would hope 2 hours would be enough time though. I wouldn't be as concerned about the Belt as I would be about the Staten Island Expressway

I used to go to SI on weekends all of the time. Depending on where you're leaving from, I agree 2 hours is enough time. I've been stuck on the Belt, literally for four hours on a Sunday afternoon.

I did for 2.5 years - from Huntington straight through to NJ. Where are you leaving from? And how far into Staten Island do you have to go?

To me is seems that the belt is always back up (but only in the direction that I am going)
The best advise that I can give you would be to go on the top level of the bridge and stay to the left (hopefully you have easypass)(even if you dont have easypass go on the top level) It is really hard to merge 15 or so toll lanes into the 3 lanes of traffic but i find that if you are in the very left lane it is easiest. (cause you end up in a lane and everyone else has to merge into your lane)
Also so sorry to hear about your grandfather.

I am so sorry to hear about your loss
As for the Belt Parkway, I'm sorry to say but there is always traffic on there especially on a Friday. I would advise you leave as early as you can.
