Bed Situation for Toddler and Infant
My 3.5 year old and 14 month old share a room. It's small (10x9 ish), but it's just for sleeping and storing their clothes. We have a 3rd bedroom, but it is the only room on the second floor of our house, and just really wouldn't work yet for my oldest. Right now we have 2 dressers, a crib, and a crib converted to toddler bed in the room. It's tight, but we got it to fit.
Recently, my 3.5 year old has started complaining that his bed is not comfortable. He's tall for his age and is definitely staring to look very big in his toddler bed. We were hoping he wouldn't outgrow the toddler bed until the 14 month old was ready to be out of the crib (our oldest was in the crib until almost 3), and then we'd get low bunk beds for them, but it doesn't seem to be working out that way.
Any ideas on what we could do in a tight space that wouldn't be spending too much?

We have a tight room for DD and can't fit a lot of furniture in it due to the layout and size as well.
What I found when it was time to get her a regular twin bed (we could never fit a full size!) was a bed that kind of goes up against the wall and side is shelving and there is no head board. It's hard to describe. Let me see if i can find a picture for you

So it's like this:
The way her room is laid out, the only wall that we could put a headboard on would cause the bed to stick out all the way into the floor space of the room. So with this, it goes up against the wall and the bed is out of the way.

can you get maybe a taller dresser and combine the 2 dressers to 1? Or maybe even keep one dresser in the upstairs room? I know that sounds like a pain but it sounds like your older son needs a bigger bed.

Bed Situation for Toddler and Infant
We weren't through literally the same thing. I ended up swapping dd's mattress with a nice one that my parents had. That helped a ton and she ended up staying in the toddler bed until she turned 5 with only a few complaints here and there. At that point we moved them to the upstairs bedroom with two twin beds.
Maybe you could move one of ther dressers out temporarily to make room for the bunk beds. Turn bringit back once the crib is gone.

We have been wondering if it's the mattress more than the space. Yes he's big, but he curls up to sleep. The mattress we have was inexpensive and definitely seems a little thin, but is it worth buying a new mattress, when we'll have to get a bed eventually anyway.
We should probably just move a dresser out temporarily to fit a bed, but I know my husband will complain about it.

Wouldnt you use the new mattress for your 14 month old to grow into once he gets into the toddler bed? Makes sense to me.

The sell a bed like the one nervousnell posted at IKEA, and it has a trundle and pulls out for sleepovers and things as well

We had hoped to skip the toddler bed with him. If he stayed in the crib until close to 3, then he could transition straight to the lower bunk, and big brother would be 5.5 then and old enough to use the upper bunk.
We started looking at bunk bed options, with the idea that the older one would sleep on the bottom until the crib is retired. Probably would need to take a dresser out of the room, but I'm sure we could figure it out.

Re: Bed Situation for Toddler and Infant
My very tall 6.5 year old still fits on a crib mattress and is comfy.
I’d see exactly why he’s uncomfortable before investing $$$.
