Bathroom question

In the basement of the house we are buying there is an area off the laundry room to add a bathroom. The current owners say that all the plumbing is there already but they just never followed through with the building of it.

Is plumbing the same as a cess pump? I know we would need one down there but I am confused as to what exact pumps/plumbing needs to be down there. If anyone also has any guesstimates that would be great. I am looking to put a full bath off my laundry room.

Thoughts?

Re: Bathroom question

I would actually call a plumber and ask their opinion.

A septic tank is a chamber which all waste water from the home passes. The tank collects the water and allows the heavier solids to sink to the bottom. Special chemicals break down the heavier wastes. Cesspools are "overflow" pits from septic tanks. Both are installed outside the home usually in the front yard.

If no sewers are present in the area a septic tank and cesspool are probably already installed. The plumbing for the bathroom in the basement should already connect to the main waste line that empties out to the septic tank.

I would get a plumber to verify the bathroom plumbing in the basement.
