Bathroom help

Does anybody know if the pipe that connects under the toilet comes in different sizes? Or is it possible for there to be an "air pocket" in the line so you don't get a good suction? We recently bought a brand new house, and the toilets just don't seem to be right (we have to plunge alot). Also, the first day we moved in, when we tested everything out, it looked like tiny air bubbles came up into the toilet when we pushed the handle to flush. DH and I never had this problem in our old house, so I don't know if the newere houses are using smaller pipes or if there is a difference between a cesspool (which we have now) and a sewer (which we had before). Any help would be appreciated.

Re: Bathroom help

sometimes there can be an airlock in the drain line, or the drain isn't vented properly-both would be the builders responsibility to repair if the house is new. Another common problem is construction debris getting stuck in the drain pipe when sloppy workers don't cover the exposed hole in the floor while working.
I don't think it has anything to do with having septic vs sewers. One other thing-what manufacturer toiliet is it? some builders use crappy no name toilets that are notorious for flushing problems.

Re: Bathroom help

We have a similar problem in our upstairs bathroom. We had a plumber come in and said that some toilets, the way they're designed, cause that to happen. Mostly the cheap ones. LOL. Anyway, we have lived w/it like that for 3 years and it functions...barely.

In the floor under the toilet is the drain to the toilet. If there is a broken seal (a seal is inserted between the pipe and the toilet to do just that) you will have some sort of leak. In our case, the kitchen is right below and you would notice water marks on the ceiling of the level below where it's located.

The toilets are American Standard. Is that a good brand or not?

american standard is a good brand...some of their models are much better than others. If I had the problem you are describing, I'd call the builder ASAP & tell them you expect it to be resolved.

Re: Bathroom help

That's the exact toilet I have that is a problem. I think it's the brand.
