Basement humidity?

Are there any measures I can take to reduce the humidity in my basement? We have two dehumidifiers going and I need to empty the reservoirs daily. I'd like to find a permanent solution to this problem.

Has this Summer been more wet/humid than normal?

I know there are dehumidfiers with a hose you can run to your sump pump so you don't have to empty the resevoir all the time. We've had nearly record breaking rain fall this year so I am sure that's not helping.

We don't have a sump. I'll have to look into that. Are they expensive to put in?

I'm glad with all this rain that we have not had one drop in the basement. It's just uncomfortably humid if the dehumidifiers aren't running. We want to cure that before we start finishing it.

Re: Basement humidity?

do you have good windows that are sealed? Sometimes the moisture seeps in that way if not, their is a paint you can put on the walls to stop moisture getting in and that could help. It is a sealer.

I've been in my home 3 years now - the basement is more humid this year then in the past -

I think b/c it has been a cooler summer the a/c has not been on as much thus the basement has been more humid -- now that we have the a/c on more often the humidity has lessened
