Barber or kiddie place for DS's first haircut?

So I was hoping to make it to his first birthday but Matthew's hair is just getting out of control! He is 10 months old. DH's barber has a child race car chair. He says they aren't the "goo goo gaa gaa child friendly type" though. Do we take him there or a kiddie place??? I am clueless! My dad offered to give him a little "trim" and "clean him up" but I really want him to get a real cut since he has so much hair. (My dad will make him look like Jim Carrey in Dumb and Dumber lol).

If you suggest a kiddie place, does anyone know any places in the Smithtown area (Mel?)???

We took our son to my husband's barber for his first cut. I have heard from a lot of people that most of the kiddie places don't do a great job on the actual cut. My son has no issue- I brought puffs to distract him, just in case, and he sat on my husband's lap and got a really great cut! And it was like $10! The kiddie places charge a lot more usually! Not worth it, IMO!

I say barber. We took ds#1 to a kiddie place the first time and he wanted nothing to do with it. He sat on my lap in a regular place.

Haircut #2 I took him to my place. He sat in the chair all by himself and was very happy.

It was $20 less :)

Ditto
did the same with DS. Went to DH's barber and sat on his lap. We have some shows on DH's Iphone so he watched the TV and the barber cut away.
I've been to a kiddie place once. It was overpriced and the hairdresser had no patience for DS moving his head. Chat Icon
Since then I go to a barber salon on the area. Only $7 and the woman is fantastic. DS twists and turns. SHe cute and shaves away without a complaint.

We usually go to a Kiddie Place (they do a good job and are reasonably priced) but, DS sits on my lap anyway so I don't think it matters.

We took DS to a kiddie place for his first haircut and for several haircuts after. Aside from the certificate with lock of hair for the first cut, they do a HORRIBLE job!! We went to a few different kiddie places. They were all horrible. I much, much prefer barbers and have been taking him to barber now for years. He's 4. Barbers do an awesome job. They really know how to cut a boys hair. They aren't warm and fuzzy, but my DS does fine with them. He is an awesome hair cutter though. I got lucky. LOL He loves getting his hair cut and sits in a big barber chair with the booster like a champ!

Good luck!
