banking related question
I've never had to do this before so I'm not sure. Is there a fee for putting a stop on a check?

Re: banking related question
Call up your bank. It depends on the bank. I know that I just did this with one of my banks (Bank of America). I wrote a check through bill pay and made it out to the wrong person (DUH), so BOA canceled the check, but if the person tries to cash it, then I will be assessed fees. (In my case, the recipient mailed returned the check to me.)

It won't be cashed. What happened was my kid's are raising money for St. Jude's and collected checks for it made out the hospital and I threw them out by accident. I just wanted to know if those people that wrote checks would be charged a fee.

Most banks do charge a stop payment fee...sometimes $20-$30 dollars.

Yes, but if you haven't done it before and it is an "uncommon" circumstance - I would call the bank and ask them to waive the fee if you are a good account holder

Yeah, but her problem is that she now has to get people who made donations by check to go through all this trouble, if I understand correctly. They may be reluctant to issue another check.
