Bank account and fraudulent charges
So last weekend our bank account was charged with 2 fraudulent charges. Both said paypal. 2 different names but one is Asian. DH has not used PayPal in years. Chase told us we had to close the account, transfer money into another account or we become responsible if more charges came up. Like what? Never heard of closing accounts but whatever. We had another account and transfered the money. Account was closed. New ATM card. Well today this new account was also charged by same Asian name and another charge under a different name.
DH only set up our automatic payments (utilities, Direct deposit, car payment, etc..) from the old account to new account. Chase will "investigate". 1 payment to a credit card and 1 check.
I am not closing another freaking account.
How???? Are we missing something.

Re: Bank account and fraudulent charges
WTF that's scary. Having you change your account made sense, usually only your card is blocked but since it was done using your name/bank account number, the bank account had to change. Weird they got it again, could your computer be hacked or something?

Sounds like someone is hacking bank account numbers from one of the various sites that you have your bill pay set up with. I would start by calling them and see if they have had other complaints.

That's what I told DH. Someone working in those places or someone who hacked their system. Our automatic payments are with major companies.

Re: Bank account and fraudulent charges
Something similar happened with my PNC, a fraudulent purchase actually made a recurring payment to our account, even though we changed all of our stuff, they didn't stop recurring payments, so our new account was hacked again. Once they stopped recurring payments, and I redid the ones I chose myself, it stopped, on our 3rd account. It was insane.

Bank account and fraudulent charges
We had this happen with our Chase savings account a few months ago. Had to open a new account too. It didn't happen with our checking because it was already linked with DH's PayPal (bank accounts can only be linked to 1 PayPal account). Maybe have DH link the accounts to his PayPal once you change them, and then no one else can link them to their accounts and make transfers.

You need to close out your PayPal.
