Bamboo Shade Liner Question

Does anyone have bamboo shades with a privacy liner?

The shades we like have the option of a white privacy liner....this would be for the sliding doors going out to our screened in porch...

I am afraid that if we are outside and the shades are down it is going to look ugly - like looking into a big white sheet...We got outside a lot and I want a window treatment on our doors that look good from both inside and out...

The white liner is making me nervousChat Icon

I guess it depends on how much privacy the blinds provide without the liner and how much you personally want. I did them on my front windows but picked a shade that was woven close together so at night you still have privacy. I like the look without the liner better. Hold the shade up to a light with your hand behind it and that will pretty much tell you how much privacy it will give you at night.

the problem is it gives ZERO privacy, the weave is very loose but so pretty Chat Icon i think i will order some more samples to see if i can find something with a tighter weave...

gotcha...that stinks...if you could find something with a smaller weave it could work or else maybe the liner wouldn't look so bad?

it looks really ugly!Chat Icon

we have them on back windows. i would never put in the front...but i always think people must be like what the hell do they have on their windows! almost looks like crinkled paper.

upside is, love the bamboo look and does give privacy.

Re: Bamboo Shade Liner Question

We have the liner, but I had a choice of colors. I think I got ivory or off white instead. I don't think it looks bad at all and ours our own two of our front windows. I don't think it looks like sheets from the outside. But it is a light tan color, so that might help. But it was important for us to have the liner and the privacy. Re: Bamboo Shade Liner Question

yes i def want some privacy - it doesn't have to be full but the pattern we liked didn't offer ANY at all...

our living room sliders and bedroom sliders are next to eachother when you are sitting out in the back (i tried attaching a picture i found from the old MLS listing, hopefully it comes up) so we want something that will look nice from outside - we are testing the shade idea out in the bedroom first and then maybe will bring a matching shade into the living room as well...

i ordered 8 more samples from blinds.com - if one of them has a tight enough weave i may not need the privacy liner - i think from outside it would the nicest with no liner....

i really want wood plantation shutters that would match with the colors in our flooring but that's out of the question for now hahahaha Chat Icon one day, one day hahaha

Re: Bamboo Shade Liner Question

Nik, can you really see your sliders from the backyard? Since you have the lanai (sp) in between, would you really notice the liner since the liner would be on the inside of your sliders in the house right?

I'll throw you another idea. You could buy cheap Target or a like store, bamboo shades for the lanai and that way you would have double the privacy without having to get the liner on the inside shades. What do you think? This would also cut down on the heat in the lanai. Just a thought. Hope that helps. Then you also have privacy in the lanai. You could have breakfast in your PJs if you wanted. Chat Icon

our backyard is really private, just a nature preserve and during the day privacy isn't an issue for two reasons 1. it is hard to see in through the screening in the lanai and 2. the glass doors are pretty much reflective...so the issue is only at night - there is one house across the woods that has an upstairs window that i can see from our bedroom - and if i can see their window that means they can see us Chat Icon i'm not sure how good they can see in, but i do know that at night if our lights are on you can def see inside the house - so i want something that i can pull down at night when we want more privacy...

i was actually thinking about doing outdoor curtains in the lanai to make it more like a cabana (and that could also serve the privacy issue) but i feel like curtains or shades will make the small area we have feel even smaller - i want to keep it as open as possible and not have anything around the cutouts - and with the humidity it's hard to keep anything from getting gross and moldy even if they are made for outdoors - florida is brutal in the summer with humidity Chat Icon

i am hoping i can find a bamboo that is tight enough that i don't need the liner...if i get a sample i like i will have to post some pics...

So you really don't have to worry about anyone seeing the liner if you have that much privacy in the backyard. KWIM? Hopefully you find something else you like in the other samples.

I like the idea of the lanai being like a cabana. Maybe you could just do some white sheers instead of canvas. You can always wash sheers if they get gross. You could hang them up high in the corners and even tie them back softly KWIM? It would look gorgeous with your furniture in there.Chat Icon

Thanks - adding some type of curtains is always an option back there, I really wanted to do it but then thought it might be too closed in looking - but sheers is a really good idea...

The problem with the liner is we'll see it Chat Icon and when we have people over they'll see it - if I have the shade down in my bedroom while we are outside or vice versa I don't want to see a large white covering that doesn't match anythingChat Icon

I looked at your lanai pics and I can see why you are worried about making the area feel smaller, but I think, even if you were to put sheers in the two outside corners, it would just soften the room and give you a even more airy feeling room. Either way its a great lanai the way it is now. Chat Icon

I see your problem with the liner now. Understand completely. Hope you find the right shade with the right privacy. Just hold it up to the light or towards a window and close one eye and you can see how much you can see through it. It's weird, but it worked for us. Chat Icon GL Nik!
