Bad coughing
Now DS has a bad cough. It's loose sounding (I think?) but I'm so nervous it's going to turn into pneumonia or bronchitis or RSV. No fever though and I'm giving him Pediacare Decongestant and Cough every 4 hours. He sounds better during the day. I dont' like co-sleeping all night but I'm thinking of doing it tonight. But I know I'll get no sleep b/c I get so nervous when he's in bed w/ us.
Any suggestions? We did Baby Vicks and I'm about to put the cool mist humidifier on. I can't raise his mattress.
Thanks!

Re: Bad coughing
My son has a cold too. I brought him last week to the dr. and it was "just a cold". The past 2 nights his cough sounded terrible so I brought him today and he has a chest infection and is taking nebulizer treatments. Lots of sick kids, our pediatricians office was mobbed. If he sounds worse to you, definitely bring him to the dr. No fever here either.

Re: Bad coughing
I'd say you are doing everything you can to ward of RSV. The cool mist humidifier is the key.
Joseph just got over his first croup of the year thanks to the humidifier. It's so scary hearing him gasp for air. I was told he was supposed to be down with crop after the age of 2 - he's 5 & still gets it. I guess he was affected afterall being a preemie.
We usually keep him in our bed when he gets really bad so we can run him to an open window or the freezer when necessary.
Another thing you may wan tto consider is to turn the heat way down.
Hope he's better soon!

Re: Bad coughing
Make sure he sleeps elevated in the crib, and try using a steam mist humidifier. If it gets really bad, close the door to the bathroom and run a bath with the hottest water so it gets steamy. Take him in there and sit a few minutes - it helps clear the congestion...

Thanks for reminding me I forgot to turn on the humidifer!!
Heat dries out membranes in the nose/throat.
Moist air will help so much, which is the reason for humidifier.
Does your PED allow for Benadryl? We give DD 1/2 teaspoon when she is stuffy and it stops the post nasal drip.
Our ped doesn't recom. pediacare for awhile.
hope he feels better soon, and mommy can get some rest too

Actually our ped doesn't recommend Benadryl - now I can't remember but he said something - oh yeah he said it doesn't do anything to clear up the mucus in the airways in fact it can make it worse (so he says). I'm sure every ped has their own do's and don'ts though.
I am going to put him in his carseat tonight, I don't like letting him sleep in it all night though. The only sucky thing is that we'll have to get up 1000x to put his pacifier back in his mouth

Re: Bad coughing
We have the humidifier and one of those plug in vapor things in his room right now. No fever, ped said to give him 1/4 tsp of Red Triaminic, I also have the mattress elevated. Hope DC feels better soon!
