"backing up"-zip drives, saving files, etc....
ok...so, I'm not really great with computers....I feel like since I have a lot of stuff saved on my home computer, pictures, music, files, etc...that I should have some kind of back up memory system in place....
does anyone have any suggestions? is a zip-drive a separate system that saves things?
tia!

you can use a flash drive, CD/DVD, email files to yourself (gmail gives you tons of space) or a combination of all of them.

Zip drives are old technology... basically a floppy drive on steroids. Only holds a maximum of 250MB... we still have a few lingering here at work.
Your best bet is a 500GB (give or take a few hundred GB, but I wouldn't go less than about 350GB) external USB drive. They are everywhere, and relatively cheap, and very easy to use. Literally plug and play. Plug it in, and it will be automatically assigned a drive letter. At that point, you can get software to back things up on a schedule, or you can just copy things manually to the external drive.

I agree with zip drive. I used those 10 years ago.
Then I switched to flash drive.
Now I am looking to buy an external hard drive myself to save all my photos who take too much space on my laptop. External hard drive are small and hold A LOT!!!!

external hard drive and back up to CDs that you store in a different location in case of fire or theft.
