Back from the Dr's

Well.....we have some decisions to make....I have a splitting head ache.....

All of his blood work came back normal, the sono came back normal, but the SA didn't...still little or no sperm......

We are definitely dealing with male infertility. At this point if he does have a blockage (which he has to go for anther test to determine that) do we go for the surgical procedure to fix it or do we go right for IVF.

I just don't know if I want to do IVF. It is expensive, and there is no guarantee. There are a lot of drugs involved. My DH still have to talk about....

For those dealing with MI, (little or no sperm) was your only option IVF. I was hoping that we could do the surgical sperm retrieval and then do an IUI...but the doc said that we couldn't do that......

He did say that the could do a surgical procedure if there is a blockage...but that has risks too......and once again...no guarantee.......

I just don't know what the right thing to do is.........

Re: Back from the Dr's

We have a similar story. DH had a testicular biopsy where they found a large amount of normal/good sperm that they extracted and froze. The urologist told us we could have an operation to fix the blockage but she recommended we do IVF instead. She said the operation is very invasive, and it is not a guarantee either. The scar tissue could grow back over the blockage with time. The operation is also expensive. She also said we would have to wait at least 6 months to have it done, and then wait at least 2 months after that to try naturally. All of these negative things is why she recommended IVF. She said to do that first and then she will talk with us about possibly having the operation for a second baby. HTH Chat Icon

Re: Back from the Dr's

We are dealing with MF and it isn't as severe but my DH did have the surgery to repair his varicosele. Things have gotten a little better but after 3 IUI's we decided that we were ready to move on to IVF. We have full coverage so I'm sure if we had to pay out of pocket we would have done at least 3 more IUI's.

Yes that's what we are about to do in a month or so.
