Back door help- for the home
This is going to be a back door in the basement- I am crazy and think of worst case all the time LOL
I am trying to decide to get a whole new door or is there a lock we can get that does not need a key to open or a switch in the glass area
My fear is someone can break in, crack the glass and open the door or god forbid an emergency we searching for a key to get us out

Back door help
I would get solid but that is because I have been broken into from the back door because they shattered the glass.

Re: Back door help
You can change out the lock set if that is the issue.
Just buy a whole new lock set at Home depot and get one that doesn't need a key to get out from the inside. Just like a normal dead bolt
As far as the glass though, I am not a fan of glass in doors like that because of what you said- easy to break in. I don't mind glass that is high up on top , just not close enough that someone can unlock the door
I wouldn't be comfortable needing a key to get out either- too risky in an emergency

Re: Back door help
Only a solid (or windows in the very top section) would keep someone from breaking the glass and getting in. Any other solution would be easy to open from the inside (or through a broken windows), or be dangerous to escape through in an emergency.

Back door help
I was just coming on to say the same thing! I read the topic and was like, wasn't there a big thread about this ages ago on the Relationship board?

Re: Back door help- for the home
I don't like glass that low on a door, especially for a rear basement door.

Re: Back door help- for the home
Someone broke into my house by breaking out a glass panel. The door looks very similar to this one and it is a back door.
For a basement where I wouldn't see it all the time, I would have a solid door.
