Baby showers/Sprinkles for number 2

So we are pregnant with number 2 :). Our DD will just turn 4 when DS comes. My Aunt is set on having something small for us but my mom is up in the air about it because she does not want people to think its all about the gifts. I'm not registered or going to so to me it's more of a celebration of us having a Son. Whats everyone's take on the 2nd time around??

Re: Baby showers/Sprinkles for number 2

i am having one for my sister Chat Icon This child is #2 for her and it is the opposite sex. if this child were the same sex as her first child, I would not have one...

i think its just a great excuse to get everyone together. i am keeping it very informal. just close family and friends, no invites. we are requesting that people not worry about large gifts but just the basic necessities if they would like to bring something Chat Icon

hosting it at my house!

Re: Baby showers/Sprinkles for number 2

I have friends that do a shower (full blown) for every single child, whether it's the first or fourth.

My cousin had a big shower for his third baby. (under two year age difference from second child)

My bff had a shower for her second (4 year difference).

When I mentioned starting a list for myself to keep track of everything I need to buy, my BFF mentioned a shower and I said, well this is my second so no shower, and she said "why not???" So I have NO idea if she is going to plan something, but I would assume not since DC2 will be just over 2 years younger than my first.

I think in general, I've heard most people say that you shouldn't have a shower for your second child. The exceptions are usually if they're very far apart (like 4 years plus) or if they're a different sex. Sprinkles (much smaller showers with just a few of the nearest and dearest to you) seem to be becoming very popular now though.

Re: Baby showers/Sprinkles for number 2

My DD will be 6.5 when the new baby is born...so a lot of the stuff that we had for her back then is out of date now...such as the carseats (6 year expiration on them!) and the crib (since it is a drop-side!)

So...I have a list of about 10 things I am registering for. Honestly if people throw me a small sprinkle, then it would be appreciated. If they don't want to, I understand completely. I am registering more to keep track of what I want based on what has great reviews and the features we need, then for people to buy me gifts =)

I won't but that's because my kids will only be 20 months apart so I will just be using everything from DD.

I won't be doing one because my kids will only be 21 months apart. I think a 4 year separation is a good reason to have a sprinkle, and I'd register if you are having one so you can get some stuff you need. I always like to look at someone's registry to get an idea of what they want.

If I have another Chat Icon I dont want one and we really don't need one.

If we are having a Chat Icon I mentioned to DH that I'd like a sprinkle for clothes. All the big stuff we know we have to get.

Your LOs are far enough apart where it nbd. In general though i'm not crazy about them. My friend's mom is throwing one for her daughter and the kids are going to be just about 2 years apart. She also had her bridal shower, Bach party and wedding after within the past year so I think it's just rubbing me the wrong way.

I think a little meet the baby gathering is a cute idea, I'll probably do something like this.
