Baby Shower Question

Sorry to crash ladies, but I have a question. One of my bff's is pregnant. I really REALLY want to throw her a very special shower - no one in her family has ever done ANYTHING for her... when she got married, her sister was too young (17), her mother would NEVER even think of it, and none of her bridesmaids would *bother* themselves (we became very close during the planning process of her wedding 8/9 years ago). I just emailed the sister out of respect and not wanting to step on toes, and she was starting to plan something for 4 weeks from now... In my opinion, that is not nearly enough time to make invitations, send them out, expect people to be free, etc... especially since after talking to the husband, there are 40 women on this list of invites.

I really don't want to get too crazy about it, but I know the history of this girl (the sister) and I simply do NOT trust her to really do justice for bff... I just sent her an email just saying that I don't think that 4 weeks is enough time, but that if that's the only weekend she can do then we need to get invites out this week the LATEST, and I gave her the list of names that the DH had given me. What are your thoughts? I'm really torn as to how to handle this... I recommended that we push it off into March/beginning of April (bff isn't due until June), and I also asked her knowing how many people bff wants to be invited if she can't host it at her apartment like she planned, what her budget is if we were to host something at a restaurant.

ETA : I just got an email back from her that that list is way too big, that she was planning on having something very small and that she's not available again until 2 weeks before her due date (you're telling me you're not free for 3 FULL months of weekends???). I suggested that in that case maybe it would be good for her to do something for just family and then I can do something just friends, this way she gets double the lovin'. I'm hoping she goes for it.

Baby Shower Question

I think it's very nice of you to do this for your friend. I think you doing something with the friends is a great idea. Let her do the smaller family party.

Thanks, I just hope the sister goes for it... I might just do it regardless.
