Baby Shower "etiquette"

I know in our modern times pretty much anything goes, But traditionally for a first baby shower, who is supposed to throw it? I always thought it was the grandparents and the godmother. Am I right? wrong? Whats the right "etiquette" here? TIA!!!
XOXOXO

Re: Baby Shower "etiquette"

For my shower, one grandma is throwing it in our hometown and one grandma is throwing another where we live. That's how I've always seen it done.

HTH!!!

Re: Baby Shower "etiquette"

In my family the grandmothers usually throw it. I never her of the godmother throwing it. I did not ask the godparents until after my DS was born, and I am doing the same for baby #2.

Re: Baby Shower "etiquette"

My mom paid for mine. My MIL may have chipped in, but my mom wanted to do it for me.

Re: Baby Shower "etiquette"

My mom did the first one at her home and did all the cooking.

My mom is having a sprinkle for me at a restaurant this time and is paying for it.

My MIL just shows up.Chat Icon

Re: Baby Shower "etiquette"

I threw it for my sister.

My mother was not in any financial position or otherwise to throw her a shower. And I was chomping at the bit to do so anyway.

My mom threw mine with the assitance of my 2 best friends. My MIL attempted to assit, but ended up being a PITA the whole time. She gave my mom some money and ordered the favors, but that was about it.

Re: Baby Shower "etiquette"

I hate to say it, but no one is really y"supposted" to throw one for you. If your mom offers, theh she can host it. There are no hard and fast rules when it comes to this.

Re: Baby Shower "etiquette"

my is being hosted by my Mom, sister and MIL. My sister is getting married a year and hasn't hosted too many showers, so will probably do the favors/giveaways/invitations/stuff like that.

My MIL probably will contribute a little financially and get the cake (she's big into cakes)

and my Mom will probably foot most of the bill for the place.

Can't wait, my sister just asked me for the guest list. Yippy Skippy!!

P.S. can't believe how many people have moved/got married since my wedding. I have to update my address list. hehe

Grandparents and Godmother and Husband....

My mom and husband did it as my mother in law is dead and wasn't invited..

and my daughter has godfathers only...

I think its more of your heritage who throws what..

My Mom and sisters are throwing mine, my MIL will probably help as well. I'm not sure what tradition is though.

Re: Baby Shower "etiquette"

I never heard of the godmother helping to throw the baby shower. My mom did most of the work planning my shower and my MIL helped pay for it.

Re: Baby Shower "etiquette"

My mom will do most of the work for my shower but I am pretty sure my MIL is helping to pay for certain things...

It's not a surprise so I already know the date- I am so excited- DECEMBER 6th!!!!!!!
