Baby Shower - all girls or co-ed?

I just want to know what the 'norm' is. I want to share the expeirence with DH, so he is attending the shower too, so I thought we could invite his guy friends too. Is that weird? His friend said to him "Aren't baby showers for girls only?"

What do you guys think?

Most showers are for girls only. But people have also had what they call "Jack and Jill" showers where the men attend as well. I think those kind may be more fun, and maybe more like a "party" than the typical "shower". Somebody on here posted recently about having one of these at a public park that rents paddle boats, having a BBQ, etc. -- just a whole day of fun rather than the normal shower stuff.

Chat Icon DH told me that he would rather be tortured than to listen to all the hens in his family cluck around and scream at the top of their lungs all day about how cute everything was! Plus he said that his friends would HATE that. I told him that it did not have to be this way that we can have it be more of a "party" than a shower, but he was like no way!
Then he went on to impersonate how his side of the family would act at the shower, and he was right! Chat Icon
I don't mean to laugh but, man his impersonation of his mother is spot on! I love my MIL, but when he does this it is hysterical! Chat Icon

Re: Baby Shower - all girls or co-ed?

Most showers are girls only, just like bridal showers. But my Bridal shower was both - it was girls only and then after gifts were open, the guys came and had cake and dessert with us. It was nice to have them there.

My baby shower was girls only...I didnt think the men would want to sit there and oooh and ahhh over all the baby stuff LOL But its totally up to you and DH. It's 2006, do what you want!

we're having a co-ed party, not your traditional shower. Its in the evening (8pm) and is more like: "come have a drink and celebrate with the parents to be"...No shower games, its just a party.

It will be mostly girls, but there will be a handful of men along with the kids. (We're having at my house.)

I tried to convince my mom & sis to do a clambake, but they wouldn't have any part of it. They felt it wasn't appropriate for a baby shower. Chat Icon

I think it would be great to have a co ed shower! I really wanted to have a "jack and jill" shower but DH thinks showers are strictly for the woman and didnt want one LOL

I wanted to have a Jack and Jill shower so DH would be included, but he wants no part of it. He thinks it's a women's thing and does NOT want it to be co-ed.

Re: Baby Shower - all girls or co-ed?

I'm dragging DH to my shower although I'm sure he'll come willingly. Afterall it's his baby too! I wouldn't invite DH's single guy friends but I would probably like male family members and couples there too.

Re: Baby Shower - all girls or co-ed?

We are having a co-ed shower but it's really a family BBQ in celebration of the baby. Some of his single friends will be there but they are very close friends of mine also and we wouldn't NOT invite them. I asked if he thought it was weird and he said it's his baby too and he was all about it! he also said if there's beer and food his friends would be happyChat Icon
