baby-proofing a built-in bookshelf?
I have a floor-to-ceiling built-in bookshelf in my living room. I have photo albums, pictures, knicknacks, etc. DD just learned to cruise (she went from standing to cruising in a week. I'm in trouble now!) and my stuff isn't safe anymore on the shelves. I know I could just take everything down, but I worry about her climbing on the empty shelves. Is there a way to baby-proof it?

Can you just take the empty shelves out? Otherwise, you can put something in front if it. An unused window screen might work if it's attached (strap, bungee, tape, etc) to the bookcase.

No, the shelves are attached to the wall. They won't slide out.

Just teach her NO. I babyproofed nothing in my house, only outlets. Ds needed to know what was ok to touch and what wasnt. Same with the xmas tree. I never left the bottom empty so he didnt touch it.
Personally I like this because not everywhere you go will be baby proofed. Kids do need boundries and this isa great way to start.

This is what my mom always says. Adapt the kids to the house, not the house to that kids. That said, we still have outlet covers, baby gates, and cabinet locks. DD is only 8 months and all over the place (also cruising). But for big pieces of furniture like that, I'm just always with her when she's around it and keep saying no and divert her attention some place else. I hope that she'll eventually get it. I'd just remove any of the glass frames or other items she can break/hurt herself with.
